Short fuel above bitcoin is a third of yesterday'sand not from a squeeze: price stopped $99 below the nearest line, and the shorts closed on their own.

📅YESTERDAY
Monday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC$82,750, ETH$2,432. The max pain fixed a day before expiry — $82,000 and $2,440 — matched both settlements by the ledger's rule for the third day running: in bitcoin the settlement came off it by 0.9% above, in ether by 0.3% below. The market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry — $80,500–83,500 and $2,360–2,500 — held both, for the fourth day running. Yesterday's radar quoted the morning book, so the corridor there was different.
No cases resolved over the day; the closed tally stands at 884, as yesterday; this morning three new cases entered the registry, all in bitcoin.
⚡THE GIST
• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is down 0.6% and ether 0.6%. On the Hyperliquid perp bitcoin reached $83,138 at 07:30 UTC — $99 below the nearest short liquidation line — and by 01:00 had slipped to $81,171.
• Short liquidation lines above bitcoin within 5% of the market now total $37.8M against $116.1M yesterday — and not because price touched them: the shorts closed on their own. Two short positions left the registry entirely, and one more short with its line just above the market bought back most of itself in the black.
• Bitcoin: the whales' long share across the registry is 21.0% against 19.2% yesterday; the short is 3.8 times the long against 4.2. The whales we also saw yesterday barely moved as a group, about $5M toward short: some shorts were closing, others adding.
• Ether: the short from Friday's low closed part of itself near the day's high at a loss, and a few hours later, lower down, sold more than it had closed. It is now almost the whole of the short above ether within 5% of the market.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: the whales stand short, in bitcoin 3.8 times the long; there is now little fuel near the market on either side.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, +$134 on the day, +$7,175 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$77,219 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812. Table at the bottom.
🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas
Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change in coins between the 04:16 UTC snapshots — on the constant set and on all addresses of both snapshots (how we track whale positions). In BTC on the constant set — 127 addresses — the short tilt grew by only about $5M: some addresses were buying back shorts, others added over the same day, and it netted to almost nothing. Across all addresses — about $50M toward long: two short positions left the registry entirely, both closed by their owners, with no forced closure. In ETH, on the constant set and across all addresses alike, the tilt moved about $2–3M toward short — a quiet day. Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 04:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $176.0M against a short of $661.4M, ETH$301.0M against $657.0M. The whales' long share in ETH is 31.4% against 30.6% yesterday. Overleveraged whales number 62 against 63 yesterday, $940M of positions together against $1,006M; the longs among them are 58% against 54%. Among the addresses we track there were no forced closures over the day, as yesterday.
Arena two — Deribit options. The block tape is busier than at the weekend: over Monday and Tuesday morning 35 structures were recognised in bitcoin and 15 in ether — against 25 and 8 in yesterday's window. Monday's largest block in bitcoin sold the distant "wings" of the December expiry on both sides: insurance against a crash and against a spike, very far from the market, for a small premium. Three times in the day the same structure repeated — one that pays if bitcoin stays in a narrow corridor just above the market until 30.10. In ether the largest was a position on price barely moving until Wednesday. Quiet accumulation outside the blocks over the week (what a block is) has changed shape: in bitcoin the top three are now all calls above the market — the puts have dropped out of it; in ether, as yesterday, the most was added in calls above the market, mostly for 30.10.
Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot runs to 05:50 UTC; the last transfer above $250k was yesterday at 22:48 UTC. Over seven days $56.7M was brought into the exchange and $14.8M taken out: $41.9M more arrived than left, against $37.8M yesterday. In the day since yesterday's radar little crossed the border — $4.5M in, $1.7M out. In the weekly window $17.9M more bitcoin arrived than left — mostly from exchanges; USDC cash — $8.1M more; ZEC — $7.9M; ether — $7.0M.
This is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses
What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position. There are no fresh figures: the SoSoValue data source hasn't answered since 09.10, the latest are for Thursday 08.10. This camp is silent: no data.
What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on the Deribit book. BTCskew is +3.7 against +3.1 yesterday — puts dearer than calls, and the tilt steepens for a fourth day running (what skew is). In ETH+2.1, as yesterday. BTC two-day vol sits in the 26th percentile since February against the 31st yesterday; ETH — in the 35th against the 51st (what implied vol is). Our fear-and-greed index stands at 50 out of 100 against 54 yesterday — the neutral zone. This camp is silent: protection against a fall in bitcoin gets dearer relative to calls while the overall price of volatility falls — these two measurements don't add up to one direction.
What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position. BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms against +0.005% yesterday; on Binance +0.010%, as yesterday (what funding is). In ETH+0.007% on Hyperliquid and +0.009% on Binance against +0.010% on both. This camp is silent: funding sits at its usual base level — neither longs nor shorts are overpaying.
What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales. On Bybit perps at 04:15 UTC, the time of the whale snapshot, 63.5% of BTC accounts stand long against 62.9% yesterday; in ETH71.7% against 72.6%. The whales' long share in bitcoin over the same day — 21.0% against 19.2%. This camp is silent: the gap between the crowd and the whales in bitcoin narrowed by 1.2 points over the day, to 42.5 — too small a move to mean anything.
Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market. On OKX swaps $456k was liquidated over the day, 65% of it longs, against $693k yesterday; that is 7% of the week's liquidations. Among the Hyperliquid addresses we track — no forced closures, as yesterday. This camp is silent: liquidations sit at background level — the day's high and the overnight slide both ran without a cascade.
Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer
The classic altseason index is 46.2 out of 100 on a list of 240 alts — the same as yesterday on a list of 197; the lists differ, so the comparison is rough. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 41.1% — $4.72B of $11.49B, as yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's on Bybit make up 48.8% of open interest against 34.9% yesterday — over the day the alts gained noticeably more contracts where longs pay more than they do in bitcoin.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 73.4% long against 73.7%.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 27.8% long across $1.18B of positions, the largest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share fell by 0.5 points.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY
continuation ⟳ — the whales stand short, in bitcoin 3.8 times the long; the tilt eased a little, mostly because two shorts left on their own; a new long made up the smaller part. The witnesses: the funds have no data; options, futures, the crowd and stress are silent.
What this does NOT mean. It isn't a forecast of a rise, nor a forecast of calm. There are a third as many short lines above the market as yesterday, so the same push upward would now catch fewer forced closures; within 2% of the price on either side there are only a few million dollars. This is about the range of a move for the same push, not about its direction.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠
Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 04:16 UTC; the day's change is measured between the 04:16 snapshots, in coins; the moves of individual addresses come from the trade records. Distance to liquidation is from the header spot. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.
The 40× short that doubled two days ago — out. Yesterday at 14:00–17:14 UTC the address bought back all 500BTC of its short at $81,900–82,000, +$33.5k; its liquidation line was $85,376, and price never reached it. This morning it holds no perp positions. The short on the edge — bought back and shrank almost fourfold. At 17:15–01:13 UTC the address bought back 248BTC of short at $81,253–81,901, +$142k, and at 23:17 sold 91BTC again at $81,949–81,977. This morning SHORT 56.6BTC ($4.6M) at 40×, liquidation at $89,702 — 9.5% above the market; yesterday the line stood 1.6% away. In ether over the day it sold 3,529 ETH and bought back 3,156, +$37k. One more short — out at a loss. At 22:19–03:57 UTC the address bought back 171BTC of short at $82,095–82,229, −$129k; this morning no positions. The short that sat through the day's high — doubled its leverage. Yesterday morning the address held 350BTC at 20×. At 07:34 UTC, right at the day's high, it bought back 50BTC at $83,093–83,104, −$132k, and at 13:57–13:59, $1,000 lower, sold 130BTC at $82,095–82,172. This morning SHORT 430BTC ($35.3M) at 40× from $80,969, uPnL −$0.51M, liquidation at $84,241 — 2.9% above the market. That is almost all of the short fuel above bitcoin within 5%. The ether short from Friday's low — the same minute. Also at 07:34 UTC the address bought back 1,000 ETH at $2,444, −$110k; at 12:05–14:04 it sold 2,500 ETH at $2,387–2,422. This morning SHORT 10,000 ETH ($24.1M) at 25× from $2,353, uPnL −$0.61M, liquidation at $2,451 — 2.0% above the market. That is $24.1M of the $24.3M of short lines above ether within 5%. A new 40× long. Yesterday morning the address held no positions. Yesterday at 06:32–17:47 UTC it bought 490BTC at $81,862–82,800 and sold 290 of them at $82,148–82,799, +$5k. This morning LONG 200BTC ($16.4M) at 40× from $82,054, liquidation at $75,281 — 8.1% under the market. The flipper into long — a different one. The address bought back 156BTC of short at $81,848–82,391, +$43k, and went long: this morning LONG 72BTC ($5.9M) at 40×, liquidation at $80,221 — 2.0% under the market. The day's account — out of the market for a second day: no bitcoin trades, no perp positions. The self-named address — added short.+179BTC over the day: SHORT 436BTC ($35.8M) at 25× from $81,998, liquidation at $100,371 — 22.6% above the market. The largest ether long at 10× — added 2,677 ETH: LONG 45,169 ETH ($109.0M) from $2,622, uPnL −$9.40M, liquidation at $2,233 — 7.1% under the market. The largest short house — standing still. Neither of the house's addresses changed its positions in coins over the day: BTC SHORT $212.3M from $76,205, uPnL −$15.4M, and BTC SHORT $192.2M from $77,822, uPnL −$10.1M. Together with their ether shorts the two addresses carry $37.9M of unrealised loss against $40.6M yesterday; their $404M make up 61% of the registry's bitcoin short side against 57% — the share rose because other shorts left. The market's biggest gain — ETH LONG $73.1M at 20× from $2,134, uPnL +$8.5M.

🔬Who exactly
Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): no change in positions in coins over the day; the unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $37.9M.
The address with the Arkham label Fasanara Capital added 164BTC and 1,492 ETH of short over the day: BTC SHORT $36.4M at 30× from $82,275 and ETH SHORT $44.1M at 25× from $2,522, uPnL in ether +$2.0M. Together with the self-named address that is about $28M of new shorts in bitcoin on the constant set — these are what balanced the others' buybacks almost to zero.
The 40× short that left, the short on the edge, the short that raised its leverage, the ether short from Friday's low, the new 40× long and the day's account carry no public labels.
Money by address. Over seven days the largest bitcoin deposits — five from Binance, $2.8–5.0M each; the largest bitcoin withdrawals — 20BTC ($1.6M) twice, to Gate. Over the day — three ether deposits from Binance, about $0.7M each; the USDC cash that left went to private addresses and addresses without a public label.
🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬
Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 124 addresses: BTC — $50M into the long, ETH — $117M into the long; yesterday on 122 addresses — $2M and $85M into the long. The weekly window has shifted by a day, so we don't treat the difference from yesterday as the day's move — the daily shift is counted separately, above.
Gamma flip.BTC across the whole book $80,574 against $80,145 yesterday — spot 1.6% above it (what the flip is). On the near expiries, computed at 06:05 UTC, the flip splits: at 2–7 days $82,041–82,151 — above spot; at 14–30 days $81,577–81,606 — below it. Price again stands on the line where the near dealers switch from damping a move to amplifying it; yesterday it was above all the near flips. ETH across the whole book $2,364 against $2,343 — spot 1.6% above; on the near expiries — $2,418–2,425, above the market: ether has been under the near flip for at least a fourth day.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +3.4 (IV37.5 against the actual weekly HV34.1) against +4.6 yesterday.

In ETH$3.9M of longs under the market against $5.0M; above it — $24.3M of shorts against $20.6M, almost all of it one address with its line at $2,451. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC there are no empty zones above the market; below it $76,000–$77,000 is empty; in ETH — $2,250–$2,300 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. From the header spot: in bitcoin a 2% fall ($80,245) already passes under the whole-book gamma flip at $80,574 — yesterday −2% left price above it; above, +2% ($83,521) is still under the $90,000 call wall across the whole book. In ether −2% ($2,355) is under the whole-book flip at $2,364.

Deepest in the red: Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812 · Wheel Trail V6 −$9,823 · Wheel Trail V7 −$8,763 — three versions of one signal that hunts a reversal and pays for every attempt while the trend runs. No trade closed in the top five over the day, for the third day running; the Pendulum made +$134 on the day. The most profitable signal wins only 4% of its 51 trades. Win rate isn't money.
📅PUBLIC LEDGER
(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 452 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held the settlement price 368 times — 81%. On Monday it held both settlements, for the fourth day running. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. A match with the settlement in 169 of those same 452 expiries, 37%; on Monday — both, for the third day running. Decision: we don't chase max pain — three good days don't change the share across the whole ledger.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 79 of 158 expiries where price reached it — 50%; the put wall in 48 of 113, 42%. On Monday price reached neither wall. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 884 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 877 with a score, −$18.93M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$7,175 since 11.05 with +$134 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.
📏Scale calibrator
• What protection costs. Our fear-and-greed index — 50 out of 100 against 54 yesterday. We compute it from the price of volatility and the option skew on Deribit, not from news, which is why it diverges from the well-known index.
• Cheap or expensive for this market itself.BTC two-day vol — 26th percentile of the hourly history since February, ten-day — 21st, 38 days out — 34th: insurance is cheaper than usual on every tenor.
• Which way protection tilts.BTCskew+3.7: puts dearer than calls, and more so than yesterday's +3.1. Terms: indiciadesk.com/en/glossary/
