📅YESTERDAY
Thursday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC$81,232, ETH$2,372. The max pain fixed a day before expiry was $83,500 and $2,500 — neither matched: max pain sat 2.8% and 5.4% above the settlement. The market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held neither: price settled under it, by 0.33% in bitcoin and 1.18% in ether. The levels here are the ledger's, fixed a day before expiry; yesterday's radar quoted the morning book. Today's Friday expiry — the heaviest of the week — settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in one new case and resolved three; the closed tally stands at 880.
⚡THE GIST
• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is up 0.9%, to $81,969, and ether 2.8%, to $2,439. Yesterday at 13:45 UTC bitcoin touched about $79,700 and ether about $2,322, then both bounced into the evening. OKX swaps liquidated $1.2M over the day, 61% of it shorts.
• Bitcoin: the whales' long share across the registry is 27.5% against 22.1% yesterday — the 56th percentile since 10 July, against the 19th. The whole jump comes from one account that wasn't in our registry yesterday: until last evening it traded stock perps on Hyperliquid, and on the evening bounce it opened large leveraged longs in both coins. Without it the share would be about 15% — below yesterday's.
• The whales we also saw yesterday — the constant set of addresses — moved the bitcoin tilt toward short by about $64–78M over the day, mainly by cutting longs.
• The short seller from our investigation came back to the short on that same bounce — for the fourth time. The address that keeps flipping changed sides several times over the day and ended with no positions, in the red.
• Ether: on the constant set — about $30–31M toward short; across all addresses — about $9M toward long, for the same reason. The largest ether short house trimmed its short.
• The funds: no fresh figures since last Friday — the data source is down.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: the whales we track are shifting toward short; the aggregate was lifted by one account.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, −$995 on the day, +$7,396 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$79,469 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812. Table at the bottom.
🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas
Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change in coins between the 04:16 UTC snapshots — on the constant set and on all addresses of both snapshots (how we track whale positions). In BTC on the constant set — 128 addresses — the longs shrank by 705BTC and the shorts added 73BTC: the short tilt grew by about $64M; between the 03:46 snapshots — by $78M. Across all addresses — +1,083BTC of longs and +743BTC of shorts: about $28M toward long, $34M at 03:46. The difference is the addresses that weren't in yesterday's snapshot — mostly one. In ETH on the constant set the longs added 4,946 ETH and the shorts 17,525 ETH: about $30–31M toward short. Across all addresses — about $9M toward long. Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 04:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $283.5M against a short of $748.1M, ETH$359.1M against $707.5M. The whales' long share in BTC is 27.5% against 22.1% yesterday: the short is 2.6 times the long, where yesterday it was 3.5 times. The short side grew too — by $69M. Overleveraged whales number 64 against 66 yesterday, $1.08B of positions together against $996M; the longs among them are 64% against 67%. By our fragility index none is near a margin call, against one yesterday.
Arena two — Deribit options. Over two days 65 structures were recognised in bitcoin against 56 yesterday, and 21 in ether against 13. Today is the Friday expiry: almost 18 thousand contracts in bitcoin and more than 122 thousand in ether. The largest fresh ones in bitcoin: a position that pays on a sharp move away from a level far below the market, and positions on a moderate rise — among them one that pays if price settles near a certain level above the market. In ether — a position on a rise up to a certain level, insurance sold on a calm, and a position on a rise financed by selling protection against a fall. Quiet accumulation outside the blocks over the week (what a block is): in bitcoin calls above the market top the list again, with puts below them; in ether — calls above the market, while puts on the Friday expiry are being unwound.
Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning. Over seven days $79.8M was brought into the exchange and $59.8M taken out: this time $20.0M more arrived than left, where yesterday $13.3M more had left. USDC cash made the turn: $22.1M in against $7.9M out. Bitcoin: $40.0M out against $29.8M in; ether is nearly level — $5.3M in, $3.7M out.
This is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses
What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position. There are no fresh figures: the SoSoValue data source hasn't answered since last Friday. The latest are for Thursday 08.10. This camp is silent: no data.
What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on the Deribit book. BTCskew is +1.6 against +2.5 yesterday — puts still dearer than calls, but the tilt eased (what skew is). In ETH+1.4 against +1.5. BTC two-day vol sits in the 7th percentile since February against the 61st yesterday; DVOL37.5 against 38.6 (what implied vol is). The two-day window now reaches past the Friday expiry. Our fear-and-greed index stands at 54 out of 100 against 58 yesterday. This camp is silent: insurance got cheaper — one of the cheapest levels since February.
What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position. BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms, as yesterday; on Binance +0.006% against −0.001% (what funding is). In ETH+0.010% and +0.008% against +0.005% and −0.002% yesterday. This camp is silent: funding sits near zero, with longs paying slightly more.
What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales. On Bybit perps 61.7% of BTC accounts stand long against 63.5% yesterday, and in ETH72.3% against 72.4%. This camp is silent: the crowd trimmed its longs a little after yesterday's buying.
Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market. On OKX swaps $1.2M was liquidated over the day, 61% of it shorts, against $3.7M of longs yesterday; that is 20% of the week's liquidations. This camp is silent: shorts got forced out on the bounce, but not many.
Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer
The classic altseason index is 45.8 out of 100 on a list of 284 alts against 40.7 on a list of 275 yesterday — the lists differ, so the comparison is rough. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 42.7% — $4.98B of $11.64B, against 41.8% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's on Bybit make up 67.1% of open interest against 66.3% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 72.6% long against 74.1% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 29.0% long across $1.33B of positions, the largest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share fell by 0.7 points.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY
continuation ⟳ — the whales we track every day moved the bitcoin tilt toward short over the day; the registry's long share was lifted by one heavily leveraged account, and without it the share would have fallen. The witnesses: the funds have no data; options, futures, the crowd and stress are silent.
What this does NOT mean. It isn't a forecast of a fall: over the week more money came into the exchange border than left, and in bitcoin options calls above the market are being accumulated. One account's large long is that account's story, not the market's direction.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠
Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 04:16 UTC; the day's change is measured between the 04:16 snapshots, in coins; the moves of individual addresses come from the registry snapshots, the trade records and the transfer ledger. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.
The account with the day's largest long. An address that wasn't in the registry yesterday, on Hyperliquid since 13.08; until last evening it traded stock perps. Yesterday at 12:20 and 18:31 UTC it received $2.39M and $3.00M of USDC — $5.39M together — from the contract through which an ordinary USDC deposit enters Hyperliquid. At 17:13–19:35 UTC it bought 1,822 BTC at $82,161–82,606, and at 19:51–20:21 — 15,270 ETH at $2,452–2,462. This morning: BTC LONG $149.3M at 40× from $82,409, liquidation at $80,638 — 1.6% from the market; ETH LONG $37.2M at 25× from $2,455, liquidation at $2,406 — 1.3%. Positions of about $187M together on an account value of about $5.5M at the snapshot. It bought after the bounce from the day's low of about $79,700, closer to the evening high of about $82,600. The 40× short seller from our investigation — back in the short for the fourth time. Yesterday at 16:29–16:31 UTC the address sold 300BTC at $82,000–82,065 — more than on its two previous returns (200 and 100BTC). Liquidation at $88,099 (+7.5%). The returns: 06.10, 10.10, 13.10, 15.10. The short on the edge — again. The 40× short that closed 181BTC in the black the day before yesterday built 346BTC again from 08:37 to 16:28 UTC at $81,247–82,215, and closed 70 of them at 11:03 — +$45k. This morning SHORT 293BTC from $81,992, liquidation at $83,122 — 1.4% from the market. The address that keeps flipping — almost no positions, in the red. Over the day it closed its BTC long (−$348k) and ETH long (−$369k), built shorts in both at 13:24–15:25 UTC — 600BTC and 9,027 ETH — and already from 15:04 to 17:45 closed them on the rebound: −$599k and −$405k. About −$1.72M together; 0.6BTC left this morning. The fresh leveraged longs — one more exit. The long that re-entered with 300BTC the day before yesterday closed them yesterday at 05:47–05:48 UTC at $80,771–80,856 — −$305k; over two days this address has given back about $605k. The 20× long still holds 287BTC from $83,408, liquidation at $54,765. New leveraged positions. A 20× short — 350BTC from $80,459, liquidation at $85,020. A 40× long — 200BTC from $81,300, plus 3,776 ETH at 25×. The 25× ether long — built again. The address that had part of its long closed by force on the night of 15 October bought 5,955 ETH from 09:50 to 21:37 UTC at $2,360–2,462 and closed 175ETH along the way: this morning 6,100 ETH from $2,399, liquidation at $2,404 — 1.4% from the market. The largest ether long at 13× — 40,269 ETH, ETH LONG $98.2M from $2,646, uPnL −$8.4M, liquidation at $2,290 — now 6% from the market. The largest short house. Its first address — 2,770 BTC (+12) and 108,291 ETH against 110,632 yesterday: −2,341ETH. The second — 2,485 BTC and 87,714 ETH. The market's biggest loss.BTC SHORT $227.1M, leverage 5×, entry $76,205, uPnL −$16.0M, liquidation at $154,590 (+89%). The same address in ETH. SHORT $264.0M from $2,323, uPnL −$12.4M, liquidation at $4,280 (+76%). The second address of the same handwriting.BTC SHORT $203.7M from $77,751 (uPnL −$10.5M, liquidation at $157,840), ETH SHORT $213.8M from $2,375 — back in the red, −$5.5M. Together the two addresses carry $44.4M of unrealised loss against $25.2M yesterday; their $430.8M make up 58% of the registry's bitcoin short side against 63% yesterday. The market's biggest gain — ETH LONG $73.8M at 20× from $2,134, uPnL +$9.2M.

🔬Who exactly
Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): over the day the house cut about 2,400 ETH of short and added 12BTC in bitcoin; the unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $44.4M.
The 30× bitcoin short is an address with the self-assigned label Fasanara Capital: 407BTC against 475 yesterday; in ether — 19,186 ETH.
Machi Big Brother — the same 25× address that was partly liquidated on the night of 15 October and has built 6,100 ETH again.
The account with the day's largest long carries no public label; its deposit came through the ordinary USDC gateway that serves hundreds of addresses, so the owner isn't visible behind it. The 40× short seller — the subject of our investigation — has no label either; nor do the other addresses in this section.
Money by address. Over seven days, among the largest bitcoin withdrawals — several to addresses labelled Wintermute, $2.9–3.3M each.
🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬
Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 124 addresses: BTC — $43M into the short, ETH — $34M into the long; yesterday on 116 addresses — $79M into the short and $85M into the long. The caveat is the same: new addresses and full exits drop out of the set — the account with the day's largest long isn't in it.
Gamma flip.BTC across the whole book $81,007 against $80,936 yesterday — spot 1.2% above it (what the flip is). ETH — $2,344 against $2,413: spot is back above it, by 4.0%.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +2.2 (IV37.6 against the actual weekly HV35.4) against +4.3 yesterday.
🔒CROSS-CHECK IN DETAIL 💠
BTC levels. Everything below comes from the Deribit options book unless stated otherwise. Today's Friday expiry — 17,911 contracts: the market-maker break-even corridor is $81,500–$84,500, spot in the lower part (what the corridor is); max pain$83,000 on Deribit and across the combined book, $82,250 on Bybit (what max pain is); put $78,000 (2,742 contracts), call $90,000 (1,143) (what the walls are). It settles at 08:00 UTC, after this snapshot.
Further down the calendar. Saturday 17.10 — 2,075 contracts; Friday 23.10 — 13,521; 30.10 — 150,560, max pain$79,000 across the combined book and a call wall at $95,000 on 25,568 contracts.
ETH levels. Today's expiry — 122,520 contracts: corridor $2,400–$2,600, spot in the lower part; max pain$2,500 on Deribit, $2,460 across the combined book; put $2,500 (8,138), call $2,650 (12,034). 30.10 — 279,481 contracts, max pain$2,500, put wall $2,300 (20,714), call wall $2,600 (24,217).
Fuel. At the 04:16 UTC snapshot, under BTC within 5% of the market ($77,878–81,977) there are $157.2M of long positions against $80.0M yesterday: $149M of that is one account with its liquidation line 1.6% from the market; without it only about $8M sits under the market. Above the market within 5% — $58.5M of shorts against $24.2M. In ETH — $52.1M of longs below the market against $119.6M; above the market no shorts, against $7.1M. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC there are no empty zones above the market; below it $76,000–$77,000 is empty; in ETH — $2,300–$2,350 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. In bitcoin a 2% fall takes price under the gamma flip — into the zone where dealers amplify a move, and exactly where the liquidation line of the day's largest long sits; above — the $90,000 call wall. In ether a ±2% move stays above the flip.
OI flow.BTC put/call across all expiries: month 0.55 · week 0.57 · now 0.62. ETH0.49 · 0.59 · 0.53 (what put/call is).
Two options books. On the same expiries up to 30 days BTC put/call is 0.62 on Deribit against 1.40 on Bybit; ETH0.83 and 0.83.

The 7-day and 21-day tenors replace yesterday's 8- and 43-day, so their percentiles aren't compared day to day. ETHDVOL51.3 against 30-day realised HV45.0 — a premium of +6.3 (what the premium is).
💎SCENARIOS IN DETAIL 💠
The code's verdicts. From 13.10: the slide into the long fuel is scored as confirmed — a low of $80,456 on the spot series the code uses, against the $82,000 level; the corridor from 13.10 — partial, price stayed within its bounds 62% of the time. The scenarios from 14.10 close today at 08:00 UTC, those from 15.10 tomorrow at 04:55 UTC; the slide trigger from 14.10 has already been touched, the one from 15.10 ($79,600) hasn't.
The all-time tally (N counts only those that reached a verdict): squeeze up through the short fuel — 17 of 37, 18 more cancelled at their level; corridor — 22 of 45 plus 13 partial, 5 more cancelled; slide into the long fuel — 15 of 28, 15 more cancelled. The directional types are still no better than a coin toss.
The corridor holds — 50%. ⏱ 2 days, to 18.10. BTC stays within the near 2% of the market: $80,350–$83,600. Cancellation level: a touch of $77,850 — the lower edge of the five-percent zone.
Slide into the long fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 18.10. Trigger: a touch of $80,350 — a break below the near 2%, into the zone where $157.2M of long liquidation lines sit under the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $83,600.
Squeeze up through the short fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 18.10. Trigger: a touch of $83,600 — a break above the near 2%, where $58.5M of short liquidation lines sit above the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $80,350.
This is how we weigh the odds — not a promise; the code will compute the verdict from spot history.

📅PUBLIC LEDGER
(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 444 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held the settlement price 360 times — 81%. On Thursday it held neither of the two settlements — after two days when it held them all. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. A match with the settlement in 163 of those same 444 expiries, 37%; on Thursday none, after two days of matches in both coins. Decision: we don't chase max pain.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 79 of 157 expiries where price reached it — 50%; the put wall in 46 of 110, 42%. On Thursday price didn't touch the walls. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 880 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 874 with a score, −$19.01M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$7,396 since 11.05 with −$995 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.
