Price turned against yesterday's fresh whale longssome left at a loss, the most profitable ether long took its profit, and the dip is being bought mostly by the crowd.

📅YESTERDAY
Wednesday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC$83,397, ETH$2,505. The max pain fixed a day before expiry was $83,000 and $2,520 — both matched: the settlements came in 0.5% above and 0.6% below. The market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held both settlements. The levels here are the ledger's, fixed a day before expiry; yesterday's radar quoted the morning book. Today's Thursday expiry settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in one new case; the closed tally stands at 877, as yesterday.
⚡THE GIST
• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is down 2.6%, to $81,204, and ether 5.3%, to $2,373. The fall came in two waves — yesterday at about 12:30–14:30 UTC and overnight at about 02:15 UTC, when bitcoin touched about $80,200 and ether about $2,314. OKX swaps liquidated $3.7M over the day, 99% of it longs.
• Bitcoin: the whales edged back toward short over the day — across all addresses by about $17–22M; on the constant set the shift runs from nil to $13M depending on the snapshot. Their long share across the registry is 22.1% against 22.9% yesterday — the 19th percentile since 10 July, against the 23rd.
• Yesterday's fresh leveraged longs split: two got out on the first wave at a loss, the others held or added — and one address cut part of its loss along the way.
• The most profitable ether long closed its position in full at the bottom of the first wave. The leveraged short that came back the day before yesterday took its profit; the short seller from our investigation got out in the black before the fall — for the fourth time.
• Ether: across all addresses the whales barely moved — about $6M toward long; one of the large ether longs was partly force-closed.
• The crowd is buying the dip: the share of BTC accounts standing long on Bybit is 63.5% against 60.5% yesterday.
• The funds: no fresh figures since last Friday — the data source is down.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: yesterday's break toward long didn't develop, and the whales' bitcoin short stays in place.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, +$553 on the day, +$8,391 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$79,469 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812. Table at the bottom.
🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas
Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change in coins between the 04:16 UTC snapshots — on the constant set and on all addresses of both snapshots (how we track whale positions). In BTC on the constant set — 132 addresses — the longs added 346BTC and the shorts 509BTC: the short tilt grew by about $13M; between the 03:46 snapshots it is nearly nil. Across all addresses — +154BTC of longs and +424BTC of shorts, about $22M; at 03:46 — $17M. In ETH on the constant set the longs added 11,566 ETH and the shorts shrank by 8,463 ETH — about $47M toward long. Across all addresses, though, the shift is only about $6M: the most profitable ether long, which closed in full, dropped out of the constant set. Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 04:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $192.3M against a short of $679.0M, ETH$292.1M against $645.0M. The whales' long share in BTC is 22.1% against 22.9% yesterday: the short is 3.5 times the long, where yesterday it was 3.4 times. Overleveraged whales number 66 against 70 yesterday, $996M of positions together against $979M; the longs among them are 67% against 62% yesterday. By our fragility index one of them is near a margin call, against none yesterday.
Arena two — Deribit options. Over two days 56 structures were recognised in bitcoin against 32 yesterday, and 13 in ether against 11. The next heavy expiry is tomorrow, Friday 16.10: more than 17 thousand contracts in bitcoin and more than 100 thousand in ether. The largest fresh one in bitcoin is a position on a moderate rise that loses on a sharp jump up. In ether it is the opposite — positions on a fall, including a sharp one. Quiet accumulation outside the blocks over the week (what a block is): in bitcoin, for the first time in days, calls above the market top the list, with puts below them; in ether — calls near the market, while puts on the Friday expiry are being unwound.
Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning. Over seven days $58.5M was brought into the exchange and $71.8M taken out: $13.3M more left than arrived, against $15.8M yesterday. USDC cash keeps leaving: $16.6M out against $14.2M in. Bitcoin: $39.6M out against $17.7M in; ether is nearly level — $5.1M in, $3.6M out.
This is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses
What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position. There are no fresh figures: the SoSoValue data source hasn't answered since last Friday. The latest are for Thursday 08.10. This camp is silent: no data.
What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on the Deribit book. BTCskew is +2.5, as yesterday — puts dearer than calls (what skew is). In ETH+1.5 against +2.2. BTC two-day vol sits in the 61st percentile since February against the 42nd yesterday; DVOL38.6 against 38.1 (what implied vol is). Our fear-and-greed index stands at 58 out of 100 against 64 yesterday. This camp is silent: the nearest insurance got slightly dearer than usual, the eight-day stays cheaper than usual.
What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position. BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms, as yesterday; on Binance −0.001%, also unchanged (what funding is). In ETH+0.005% and −0.002% against +0.010% and +0.003% yesterday. This camp is silent: funding sits near zero.
What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales. On Bybit perps 63.5% of BTC accounts stand long against 60.5% yesterday, and in ETH72.4% against 70.9%. This contradicts the whales: the crowd is buying the dip, the bitcoin whales in total aren't; the gap between them widened again.
Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market. On OKX swaps $3.7M was liquidated over the day, 99% of it longs, against $32k yesterday; that is 41% of the week's liquidations. On Hyperliquid one large ether long was partly force-closed. This confirms the whales: it was longs that got forced out — the side opposite the whales.
Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer
The classic altseason index is 40.7 out of 100 on a list of 275 alts against 45.1 on a list of 244 yesterday — the lists differ, so the comparison is rough. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 41.8% — $4.88B of $11.69B, against 43.4% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's on Bybit make up 66.3% of open interest against 47.6% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 74.1% long against 73.4% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 29.7% long across $1.28B of positions, the largest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share rose by half a point.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY
continuation ⟳ — yesterday's break didn't develop, the whales' bitcoin short stays in place: their long share barely changed, and the short is three and a half times the long. Price turned against the fresh leveraged longs, and the most profitable ether long took its profit. The witnesses: the crowd contradicts the whales — it is buying the fall; stress confirms them — longs got forced out; the funds have no data; options and futures are silent.
What this does NOT mean. It isn't a forecast of a further fall: in bitcoin options calls above the market are being quietly accumulated, and some of the fresh whale longs added on the dip. A few wallets getting out in the black or in the red is the story of those wallets, not the market's direction.
🔒In today's full RADAR:
• which of yesterday's longs got out at a loss and which added, and whose large ether long stands by its liquidation line;
• how much the most profitable ether long took, and where the short seller from our investigation got out.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠
Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 04:16 UTC; the day's change is measured between the 04:16 snapshots, in coins; the moves of individual addresses come from the registry snapshots and the trade records. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.
The most profitable ether long — out of the market. By the trade records, the 4× long that held the market's biggest gain yesterday closed 19,995 ETH at 14:34–14:42 UTC at $2,416–2,428 — +$9.71M, at the bottom of the first wave. Its bitcoin — 96BTC, +$24k. No positions left. The fresh longs — who got out. The 25× long that grew to 239BTC yesterday closed 227BTC at 14:46 UTC at $81,775–81,834 — −$447k. The 40× long closed 170BTC at 14:38–16:23 at $81,558–81,945 — −$300k, and in the evening, at 19:13–20:21, built 300BTC again at 25× at $81,695–81,964; liquidation at $79,415 (−2%). Leveraged longs — who holds. The fresh 20× long holds 287BTC from $83,408; its liquidation line moved up from $49,826 to $62,422 — apparently the account's collateral sank with price. Another 40× long, which held 302BTC yesterday, added on the drop: 418BTC from $83,296, liquidation at $77,919 (−4%), plus 5,870 ETH. The address that flipped partly closed its longs at a loss during the day — −$139k in BTC and −$121k in ETH — then rebuilt: by this morning 299BTC at 40× from $81,573 and 5,500 ETH at 25×. The leveraged short — in the black. The 40× short that came back the day before yesterday closed 181BTC at 12:36–18:32 UTC at $81,569–82,858 — +$221k; 17BTC remain. New and enlarged leveraged shorts: 200BTC at 40× from $82,815 and 222BTC at 25× from $82,082. The 40× short seller from our investigation — out of the market for the fourth time. Yesterday at 07:54 UTC, eleven minutes after our morning snapshot, the address closed all 100BTC of its short at $83,480–83,497 — +$33k, before the fall. No positions left. Forced closure. The 25× ether long closed 5,550 ETH itself over the day (−$358k), and at 02:22–02:24 UTC a further 1,650 ETH at $2,330–2,380 were closed by force — −$269k. The address's own liquidation mark sits on exactly these fills. After that the address built 320ETH again. The largest ether long — by its line. The 13× long — 40,269 ETH, ETH LONG $95.2M from $2,646, uPnL −$11.3M, liquidation at $2,290 — about 3.5% from the market. The largest short house — almost in place. Its first address — 2,758 BTC and 110,632 ETH, the second — 2,485 BTC and 87,779 ETH against 88,279 yesterday. The market's biggest loss.BTC SHORT $223.4M, leverage 5×, entry $76,178, uPnL −$13.3M, liquidation at $157,538 (+95%). The same address in ETH. SHORT $261.7M from $2,323, uPnL −$4.7M, liquidation at $4,258 (+80%). The second address of the same handwriting.BTC SHORT $201.3M from $77,751 (uPnL −$8.0M, liquidation at $165,738), ETH SHORT $207.6M from $2,375 — in the black for the first time since August, +$0.9M. Both addresses' liquidation lines moved further away again over the day. Together the two addresses carry $25.2M of unrealised loss against $65.7M yesterday; their $424.7M make up 63% of the registry's bitcoin short side against 66% yesterday. The market's biggest gain — ETH LONG $71.6M at 20× from $2,134, uPnL +$7.0M.

🔬Who exactly
Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): over the day the house cut about 500ETH of short, bitcoin almost unchanged; the unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $25.2M against $65.7M yesterday.
The 30× bitcoin short is an address with the self-assigned label Fasanara Capital: 475BTC against 312 yesterday; in ether — 19,932 ETH.
Machi Big Brother — the same 25× address that is unloading its ether long again, this time partly by force.
The 40× short seller — the subject of our investigation — carries no public label; nor do the other addresses in this section.
Money by address. Over seven days, among the largest bitcoin withdrawals — several to addresses labelled Wintermute, $2.85–3.27M each.
🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬
Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 116 addresses: BTC — $79M into the short, ETH — $85M into the long; yesterday on 128 addresses — $57M into the long and $27M into the short. The caveat is the same: full exits drop out of the set.
Gamma flip.BTC across the whole book $80,936 against $80,625 yesterday — spot only 0.3% above it (what the flip is). ETH — $2,424 yesterday, $2,413 today: spot 1.7% BELOW, so ether is already in the zone where dealers' hedging amplifies a move rather than dampens it.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +4.3 (IV38.8 against the actual weekly HV34.4) against +3.8 yesterday.
🔒CROSS-CHECK IN DETAIL 💠
BTC levels. Everything below comes from the Deribit options book unless stated otherwise. Today's Thursday expiry — 3,202 contracts: the market-maker break-even corridor is $80,500–$86,000, spot in the lower part (what the corridor is); max pain$83,000 on Deribit, $82,500 across the combined book (what max pain is); put $81,500 (387 contracts), call $87,000 (173) (what the walls are). It settles at 08:00 UTC, after this snapshot.
Further down the calendar. Friday 16.10 — 17,519 contracts; 23.10 — 12,219; 30.10 — max pain$79,000 across the combined book and a call wall at $95,000 on 25,410 contracts.
ETH levels. Today's expiry — 46,454 contracts: corridor $2,350–$2,580, spot in the lower part; max pain$2,460 on Deribit, $2,450 across the combined book; put $2,340 (6,035), call $2,640 (5,481). Friday 16.10 in ether — 102,601 contracts; 30.10 — max pain$2,500, put wall $2,300 (20,938), call wall $3,200 (15,453).
Fuel. At the 04:16 UTC snapshot, under BTC within 5% of the market ($76,945–80,995) there are $80.0M of long positions against $29.1M yesterday; above the market within 5% — $24.2M of shorts against $40.8M. In ETH — $119.6M of longs below the market against $18.4M: price has come down to the line of the largest ether long; above the market — $7.1M of shorts against none yesterday. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC there are no empty zones above the market; below it $75,000–$76,000 is empty; in ETH — $2,250–$2,300 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. In bitcoin a 2% fall takes price under the gamma flip — into the zone where dealers amplify a move; above — the $90,000 call wall. In ether spot is already under the flip.
OI flow.BTC put/call across all expiries: month 0.55 · week 0.56 · now 0.60. ETH0.51 · 0.57 · 0.51 (what put/call is).
Two options books. On the same expiries up to 30 days BTC put/call is 0.62 on Deribit against 1.31 on Bybit; ETH0.95 against 0.82.
IV by tenor.BTC 2d P44/C39 · 8d P38/C33 · 43d P39/C37, percentiles since February — 61st, 30th and 42nd. ETH 2d P59/C52 · 8d P51/C46 · 43d P52/C51, percentiles 61st, 35th and 39th. The third tenor today is 43 days instead of yesterday's 16, so the percentiles aren't compared day to day. ETHDVOL52.7 against 30-day realised HV42.4 — a premium of +10.3 (what the premium is).
💎SCENARIOS IN DETAIL 💠
The code's verdicts. The squeeze up through the short fuel from 13.10 and from 14.10 was cancelled at its level — a low of $80,812 on the spot series the code uses, against the $82,000 and $81,700 levels. The same low touched the slide triggers of both days; the code will score them at their deadlines — today at 07:53 UTC and tomorrow at 08:00 UTC. The corridors of both days left their bounds.
The all-time tally (N counts only those that reached a verdict): squeeze up through the short fuel — 17 of 37, 18 more cancelled at their level; corridor — 22 of 44 plus 12 partial, 5 more cancelled; slide into the long fuel — 14 of 27, 15 more cancelled. The directional types are still no better than a coin toss.
The corridor holds — 50%. ⏱ 2 days, to 17.10. BTC stays within the near 2% of the market: $79,600–$82,850. Cancellation level: a touch of $77,150 — the lower edge of the five-percent zone.
Slide into the long fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 17.10. Trigger: a touch of $79,600 — a break below the near 2%, into the zone where $80.0M of long liquidation lines sit under the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $82,850.
Squeeze up through the short fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 17.10. Trigger: a touch of $82,850 — a break above the near 2%, where $24.2M of short liquidation lines sit above the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $79,600.
This is how we weigh the odds — not a promise; the code will compute the verdict from spot history.
🔭WHAT TO WATCH

📅PUBLIC LEDGER
(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 442 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held the settlement price 360 times — 81%. On Wednesday it held both settlements. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. A match with the settlement in 163 of those same 442 expiries, 37%; on Wednesday in both coins, for the second day running. Decision: we don't chase max pain — two quiet days don't change the share across the whole ledger.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 79 of 157 expiries where price reached it — 50%; the put wall in 46 of 110, 42%. On Wednesday price didn't touch the walls. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 877 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 872 with a score, −$18.99M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$8,391 since 11.05 with +$553 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.
