Case No. 20261014 · 14.10.2026

For six days the whales' bitcoin long share fell, from 31% to 15%then in one day the tilt swung about $70M toward long; fresh leveraged longs did it, and the largest short house barely moved.

Case No. 20261014 · 14.10.2026 07:43 UTC · BTC $83,390 / ETH $2,505 · analysis: Fable 5.1 by Anthropic

📅YESTERDAY

Tuesday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC $83,827, ETH $2,530. The max pain fixed a day before expiry was $84,000 and $2,520 — both matched: the settlements came in 0.2% below and 0.4% above. The market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held both settlements. The levels here are the ledger's, fixed a day before expiry; yesterday's radar quoted the morning book, which is why its numbers differ. Today's Wednesday expiry settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in four new cases; the closed tally stands at 877, as yesterday.

⚡THE GIST

• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is down 0.4%, to $83,390, and ether 0.8%, to $2,505. Over the day bitcoin moved inside a $82,927–84,133 band. OKX swaps liquidated only $32k.
• Bitcoin: the whales shifted about $70M toward long over the day — on the constant set of addresses and across all addresses alike; between the 06:46 snapshots by $55–59M. Their long share across the registry is 22.9% against 15.2% yesterday — the 23rd percentile since 10 July, against the 2nd.
• A few fresh leveraged longs made that shift; the largest short house barely moved over the day.
• The leveraged shorts that got out at a profit the day before yesterday are back: the short seller from our investigation is short again less than a day after exiting.
• Ether: the whales shifted toward long too, by about $26–31M — because the shorts cut more than the longs did.
• The funds: no fresh figures since Friday — the data source is down.
• Verdict — break ⚡: for six days the whales' bitcoin long share fell; over the day the whales leaned toward long in both coins.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, −$788 on the day, +$7,838 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$79,469 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812. Table at the bottom.

🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas

Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change in coins between the 07:16 UTC snapshots — on the constant set and on all addresses of both snapshots (how we track whale positions).
In BTC on the constant set — 144 addresses — the longs added 705 BTC and the shorts shrank by 163 BTC: the short tilt narrowed by about $72M. Across all addresses — +599 BTC of longs and −249 BTC of shorts, about $71M. Between the 06:46 snapshots — $59M and $55M.
In ETH on the constant set the longs shrank by 7,704 ETH and the shorts by 17,922 ETH: the short tilt narrowed by about $26M; across all addresses by $31M. Between the 06:46 snapshots — $21M and $26M.
Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 07:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $196.4M against a short of $661.9M, ETH $337.6M against $711.9M. The whales' long share in BTC is 22.9% against 15.2% yesterday: the short is 3.4 times the long, where yesterday it was 5.6 times.
Overleveraged whales number 70 against 75 yesterday, $979M of positions together against $1.00B; the longs among them are 62% against 53% yesterday. By our fragility index none of them is near a margin call, as yesterday.

Arena two — Deribit options. Over two days 32 structures were recognised in bitcoin against 41 yesterday, and 11 in ether against 20. The next heavy expiry is Friday 16.10: more than 16 thousand contracts in bitcoin and more than 93 thousand in ether.
The largest fresh one in bitcoin is a position on a moderate fall by Friday; next to it, insurance sold both ways — a position that pays if the market stays calm. In ether — positions on a moderate rise and on price staying inside a narrow band.
Quiet accumulation outside the blocks over the week shows the same split as yesterday (what a block is): in bitcoin — puts below the market only; in ether — calls only, near the market and in the money.

Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning.
Over seven days $61.0M was brought into the exchange and $76.8M taken out: $15.8M more left than arrived, against $29.1M yesterday. USDC cash keeps leaving: $18.6M out against $12.8M in. Bitcoin: $39.0M out against $21.3M in; ether is nearly level — $5.1M in, $4.5M out.

This is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses

What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position.
There are no fresh figures: the SoSoValue data source hasn't answered since Friday. The latest are for Thursday 08.10.
This camp is silent: no data.

What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on the Deribit book.
BTC skew is +2.5 against +1.7 yesterday — puts got dearer relative to calls (what skew is). In ETH +2.2 against +0.6.
BTC two-day vol sits in the 42nd percentile since February against the 46th yesterday; DVOL 38.1 against 37.1 (what implied vol is).
Our fear-and-greed index stands at 64 out of 100 against 63 yesterday.
This camp is silent: puts got slightly dearer, but insurance remains cheap.

What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position.
BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms against −0.001% yesterday — longs pay shorts again; on Binance −0.001% against +0.008% (what funding is). In ETH +0.010% and +0.003% against +0.004% and +0.007% yesterday.
This camp is silent: funding sits near zero, and the exchanges pull in opposite directions.

What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales.
On Bybit perps 60.5% of BTC accounts stand long against 60.9% yesterday, and in ETH 70.9% against 71.3%.
This camp is silent: the crowd stayed put — it was the whales that moved, and the gap between them narrowed.

Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market.
On OKX swaps $32k was liquidated over the day against $574k yesterday. Forced closures among Hyperliquid's top whales — none.
This camp is silent: no stress.

Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer

The classic altseason index is 45.1 out of 100 on a list of 244 alts against 45.5 on a list of 297 yesterday — the lists differ, so the comparison is rough. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 43.4% — $4.97B of $11.45B, against 44.3% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's on Bybit make up 47.6% of open interest against 34% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 73.4% long against 73.6% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 29.2% long across $1.42B of positions, the largest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share rose by 1.2 points.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY

break ⚡ — for six days the whales' bitcoin long share fell, from 31% to 15%; over the day the tilt swung about $70M toward long, and ether leaned toward long as well. The whales' bitcoin long share rose from the 2nd to the 23rd percentile in a single day. The witnesses: the funds have no data; options, futures, the crowd and stress are silent.
What this does NOT mean. It isn't a turn by the whales as a group: a few fresh leveraged longs made the shift, the largest short house keeps its short, and the whales' bitcoin short is still more than three times the long. The leveraged shorts that took their profit the day before yesterday have already come back.

🔒In today's full RADAR:

• which whales built the leveraged longs and where their liquidation lines sit;
• at what size the short seller from our investigation came back, and whose short stands by its line again.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠

Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 07:16 UTC; the day's change is measured between the 07:16 snapshots, in coins; the moves of individual addresses come from the registry snapshots and the trade records. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.

Who built the longs. By the trade records, a 20× long bought 287 BTC yesterday at 16:11–17:00 UTC at $83,300–83,470 — on the slide, about an hour before the day's low; liquidation at $49,826. A 40× long accumulated 170 BTC from 09:31 yesterday to 06:21 today at $83,173–83,536, liquidation at $78,399 (−6%). One more address at 25× grew from 36 to 239 BTC by the snapshots, liquidation at $72,715; its trade records show nothing for this day.
The address that flipped. Yesterday's 40× short closed 400 BTC at 16:46–20:50 UTC at $83,049–83,438 — +$145k, and its ether short — +$11k. By 07:07 today it is long: 200 BTC at 40× from $83,551, liquidation at $62,161; in ether 2,000 ETH of long at 07:16, topped up to 4,155 by 07:43.
The 40× short seller from our investigation — short again. Nineteen hours after exiting at a profit, the address sold 100 BTC yesterday at 08:33–08:37 UTC at $83,807–83,900. Liquidation at $103,794 (+24%). This is the third return: exits on 03.10, 09.10 and 12.10.
The short on the edge — back. The 40× short that closed 296 BTC at a profit the day before yesterday built 266 BTC again from 08:42 yesterday to 01:56 today at $83,349–83,738, and closed 97 of them at 17:15 — +$47k. This morning: SHORT 198 BTC from $83,525, liquidation at $85,001 — 1.9% from the market. Not one trade carries a forced-closure mark.
Who cut the ether short. The 20× ether short closed 32,151 ETH (−$272k) while opening 23,211 in parallel: by the snapshots, from 13,936 to 5,024 ETH.
The largest short house — almost in place. Its first address went from 2,772 to 2,753 BTC, ether unchanged; the second is unchanged in bitcoin, 88,279 ETH.
The market's biggest loss. ETH SHORT $277.2M, leverage 5×, entry $2,323, uPnL −$20.2M, liquidation at $4,016 (+60%).
The same address in BTC. SHORT $229.7M, entry $76,168, uPnL −$20.0M, liquidation at $144,672 (+73%).
The second address of the same handwriting. BTC SHORT $207.3M from $77,751 (uPnL −$14.1M, liquidation at $152,299, +83%), ETH SHORT $221.1M from $2,375 (uPnL −$11.4M, liquidation at $4,428, +77%). The second address's liquidation lines moved further away over the day: yesterday $142,785 and $4,179. Together the two addresses carry $65.7M of unrealised loss against $72.4M yesterday; their $437.0M make up 66% of the registry's bitcoin short side against 64% yesterday.
The 13× ether long — 40,269 ETH, ETH LONG $100.9M from $2,646, uPnL −$5.7M, liquidation at $2,290 (−9%).
The market's biggest gain — ETH LONG $50.1M at 4× from $1,936, uPnL +$11.4M.

🔬Who exactly

Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): over the day the house cut 19 BTC of short, ether almost unchanged; the unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $65.7M.
The 30× bitcoin short is an address with the self-assigned label Fasanara Capital: 312 BTC against 307 yesterday; its ether short grew from 17,112 to 19,226 ETH.
Machi Big Brother — the 25× ether long: 7,200 ETH against 7,600 yesterday.
The 40× short seller — the subject of our investigation — carries no public label; nor do the other addresses in this section.
Money by address. Over seven days, among the largest bitcoin withdrawals — several to addresses labelled Wintermute, $2.9–3.4M each; among the largest deposits — from Binance addresses, $3.1–5.1M each; $5.5M of USDC went to a Binance deposit address.

🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬

Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 128 addresses: BTC — $57M into the long, ETH — $27M into the short; yesterday — $85M and $39M into the short. The caveat is the same: full exits drop out of the set.
Gamma flip. BTC across the whole book $80,625 against $79,997 yesterday, spot 3.4% above it (what the flip is). ETH — $2,424 against $2,379, spot 3.3% above.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +3.8 (IV 38.1 against the actual weekly HV 34.3) against +2.7 yesterday.

🔒CROSS-CHECK IN DETAIL 💠

BTC levels. Everything below comes from the Deribit options book unless stated otherwise. Today's Wednesday expiry — 1,985 contracts: the market-maker break-even corridor is $82,500–$84,000, spot in the middle (what the corridor is); max pain $83,000 on Deribit, $83,500 across the combined book (what max pain is); put $81,500 (182 contracts), call $84,000 (222) (what the walls are). It settles at 08:00 UTC, after this snapshot.
Further down the calendar. Thursday 15.10 — 1,447 contracts; Friday 16.10 — 16,528; 30.10 — max pain $79,000 across the combined book and a call wall at $95,000 on 25,259 contracts.
ETH levels. Today's expiry — 22,791 contracts: corridor $2,460–$2,540, spot in the middle; max pain $2,520 on Deribit, $2,510 across the combined book; put $2,480 (1,510), call $2,560 (2,582). Friday 16.10 in ether — 93,730 contracts; 30.10 — max pain $2,500, put wall $2,300 (20,725), call wall $3,200 (15,426).
Fuel. At the 07:16 UTC snapshot, under BTC within 5% of the market ($79,260–83,432) there are $29.1M of long positions against $30.3M yesterday; above the market within 5% — $40.8M of shorts against $48.3M. In ETH — $18.4M of longs below the market against $19.2M, and no shorts above it against $2.8M yesterday. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC there are no empty zones above the market; below it $77,000–$78,000 is empty; in ETH — $2,400–$2,450 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. In both assets a move within ±2% stays in the zone where dealers dampen it: the gamma flips sit 3.4% and 3.3% below the market. Above, in BTC — the $90,000 call wall.
OI flow. BTC put/call across all expiries: month 0.56 · week 0.56 · now 0.59. ETH 0.53 · 0.55 · 0.52 (what put/call is).
Two options books. On the same expiries up to 30 days BTC put/call is 0.59 on Deribit against 1.47 on Bybit; ETH 0.91 against 0.96.
IV by tenor. BTC 2d P36/C35 · 9d P36/C32 · 16d P37/C33, percentiles since February — 42nd, 23rd and 14th. ETH 2d P46/C45 · 9d P45/C43 · 16d P48/C46, percentiles 37th, 17th and 9th. ETH DVOL 51.6 against 30-day realised HV 41.7 — a premium of +9.9 (what the premium is).

💎SCENARIOS IN DETAIL 💠

The code's verdicts. From 12.10: the slide into the long fuel was scored as confirmed — a low of $81,278 on the spot series the code uses, against the $82,450 level. The 12.10 corridor — partial: price stayed inside its bounds 88% of the time. The three scenarios from 13.10 are open until tomorrow, 07:53 UTC.
The all-time tally (N counts only those that reached a verdict): squeeze up through the short fuel — 17 of 37, 16 more cancelled at their level; corridor — 22 of 44 plus 12 partial, 5 more cancelled; slide into the long fuel — 14 of 27, 15 more cancelled. The directional types are still no better than a coin toss.
The corridor holds — 50%. ⏱ 2 days, to 16.10. BTC stays within the near 2% of the market: $81,700–$85,050. Cancellation level: a touch of $79,200 — the lower edge of the five-percent zone.
Slide into the long fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 16.10. Trigger: a touch of $81,700 — a break below the near 2%, into the zone where $29.1M of long liquidation lines sit under the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $85,050.
Squeeze up through the short fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 16.10. Trigger: a touch of $85,050 — a break above the near 2%, where $40.8M of short liquidation lines sit above the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $81,700.
This is how we weigh the odds — not a promise; the code will compute the verdict from spot history.

🔭WHAT TO WATCH

• The fresh 20–40× longs — whether they hold if price goes back to the day's low (💠).
• The 40× short 1.9% from its liquidation line (💠).
• Friday 16.10 — more than 16 thousand contracts in bitcoin and more than 93 thousand in ether (💠).

📅PUBLIC LEDGER

(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 440 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held the settlement price 358 times — 81%. On Tuesday it held both settlements. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. A match with the settlement in 161 of those same 440 expiries, 37%; on Tuesday in both coins. Decision: we don't chase max pain — two matches in a day don't change the share across the whole ledger.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 79 of 157 expiries where price reached it — 50%; the put wall in 46 of 110, 42%. On Tuesday the bitcoin put wall, which price touched, held. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 877 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 872 with a score, −$18.99M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$7,838 since 11.05 with −$788 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.

📏Scale calibrator

• What protection costs. Our fear-and-greed index — 64 out of 100 against 63 yesterday. We compute it from the price of volatility and the option skew on Deribit, not from news, which is why it diverges from the well-known index.
• Cheap or expensive for this market itself. BTC two-day vol — 42nd percentile of the hourly history since February, nine-day — 23rd, 16 days out — 14th: the nearest insurance is almost normal, the far-dated is cheap.
• Which way protection tilts. BTC skew +2.5: puts dearer than calls, and the tilt grew over the day — yesterday +1.7. Terms: indiciadesk.com/en/glossary/
