Case No. 20261007 · 07.10.2026

One night hour did the damage on the chartthe whales had built two thirds of their bitcoin short shift in daylight, before it.

Case No. 20261007 · 07.10.2026 07:29 UTC · BTC $84,202 / ETH $2,617 · analysis: Fable 5.1 by Anthropic

📅YESTERDAY

Tuesday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC $85,482, ETH $2,704. The max pain fixed a day before expiry was $86,500 and $2,720. In ether the ledger counted a match: the settlement came in 0.6% below. In bitcoin it didn't: 1.2% below. The market-maker break-even corridor held price in both assets, and the expiry's call walls held too. Today's expiry settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in twelve new cases; the closed tally stands at 872, 867 of them with a score.

⚡THE GIST

• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is down 1.4%, to $84,202, and ether 2.9%, to $2,617. Most of the drop came in one hour around 02:00 UTC: on the perps bitcoin reached about $83,200. OKX swaps liquidated $1.1M, almost all of it longs.
• The bitcoin whales widened their short tilt by about $105M over the day — 2.7 times yesterday's move, and the measurement an hour earlier gives the same. About two thirds of the shift was built in daylight, before the drop: the whales were adding to shorts and cutting longs. In the night hour several large long addresses closed at a loss, and one of them was partially closed by the exchange itself.
• The registry's largest short house was adding to its short in both bitcoin and ether during the day, before the drop.
• Ether: the whales' positions barely moved over the day. But under the market, within 5%, there are now $237M of long liquidation lines against $34M yesterday — and almost 90% of that sits on two addresses.
• The funds: on Tuesday $202M left the ETH ETFs — a sixth straight outflow and the largest of the run; $119M went into the BTC funds.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: the whales are pressing the short, and the day's move went their way.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, −$14 on the day, +$10,461 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$81,719 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,812. Table at the bottom.

🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas

Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change on a constant set of addresses (how we track whale positions) — the 151 present in both snapshots at 07:16 UTC — and count in coins.
In BTC the longs on this set shrank by 679 BTC and the shorts added 564 BTC: at the morning snapshot's price the short tilt grew by about $105M. Between the 06:16 snapshots — by about $109M.
In ETH the longs shrank by 632 ETH and the shorts by 533 ETH: the tilt barely changed. Between the 06:16 snapshots — about $9M toward long.
Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 07:29 UTC snapshot: BTC long $237.8M against a short of $696.5M, ETH $454.9M against $826.8M. The whales' long share in BTC is 25.5% against 30.9% yesterday: the short is now almost three times the long.
Overleveraged whales number 72 against 67 yesterday, $1.12B of positions together against $1.31B, 72% of them longs against 68%.

Arena two — Deribit options. Over two days 55 structures were recognised in bitcoin against 47 yesterday, and 21 in ether against 8. The next heavy expiry is Friday 09.10.
Among the bitcoin ones — a large pinpoint position far above the market for the end of October and a large spread on a deep fall; in ether — a large condor on a corridor slightly above the market and a position on a moderate rise.
Quiet accumulation outside the blocks (what a block is): in ether — calls above the market, on the nearest expiries and for the end of November; in bitcoin — puts below the market and calls far above it.
Ether sits only 1% above the level below which, by our model, dealers stop dampening a move and start amplifying it.

Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning.
Over seven days $90.2M was brought into the exchange and $85.3M taken out: for the first time in several days more came in than left, by $4.9M, against about $17M of net withdrawal yesterday. USDC cash is arriving: $50.4M in against $39.0M out. Bitcoin: $28.0M out against $22.3M in; ether — $4.3M against $3.3M.

This is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses

What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position.
On Monday $89.9M left the BTC funds, on Tuesday $118.9M came in: BlackRock's IBIT +$122.0M against an $11.0M outflow from the Grayscale fund. The ETH funds: −$50.8M on Monday and −$201.9M on Tuesday, all of it from BlackRock's ETHA — a sixth straight outflow.
Over the five sessions of 30.09–06.10: BTC +$172.8M against +$769.4M the five before; ETH −$405.0M against +$271.9M — a week in the 7th percentile of the series, among its weakest.
This contradicts the whales in bitcoin: the funds were buying on Tuesday while the whales press the short. In ether the camps agree on caution: the funds are selling, the whales hold a large short.

What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on the Deribit book.
BTC skew −0.7 against +0.9 yesterday: calls are slightly dearer than puts (what skew is). In ETH 0.0 against −0.1.
BTC two-day vol sits in the 28th percentile since February against the 25th yesterday; DVOL 36.0 against 36.1 (what implied vol is).
Our fear-and-greed index stands at 77 out of 100, as yesterday.
This camp is silent: the drop didn't make insurance any dearer.

What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position.
BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms — the venue's base rate, as yesterday; on Binance −0.004% against +0.000% (what funding is). In ETH +0.010% and −0.003% against +0.010% and −0.001% yesterday.
This camp is silent: on Hyperliquid funding sits at the base, on Binance — slightly below zero.

What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales.
On Bybit perps 59% of BTC accounts stand long against 55% yesterday, and in ETH 70% against 67%.
This contradicts the whales: on the drop the crowd added longs while the whales shed theirs.

Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market.
On OKX swaps $1.1M was liquidated over the day, 91% of it longs, against $75k yesterday; that is a quarter of all liquidations there over the week. Among the wallets of the Hyperliquid registry — at least one partial forced close of a long.
This sides with the whales in bitcoin: it was longs that were forced out — the side opposite the whales.

Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer

The classic altseason index is 51.5 out of 100 on a list of 233 alts against 53.6 on a list of 211 yesterday; on today's list yesterday's value is 50.4. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 43.5% — $5.54B of $12.75B, against 44.4% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's make up 48% of open interest against 76% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 71.9% long against 70.2% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 30.9% long across $1.66B of positions. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share slipped by less than a point.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY

continuation ⟳ — the bitcoin whales have been pressing the short for several days, and this day the move went their way: the short tilt grew by about $105M — through added shorts and through longs shed alike. The witnesses: stress sides with the whales, since it was longs that were forced out; the bitcoin funds and the crowd stand against the whales; options and futures are silent.
What this does NOT mean. It isn't a forecast of a further fall: the large longs closed in the night rather than flipping short, and insurance against a fall didn't get dearer. And the layer of long liquidation lines under ether is about the range of a possible move, not its probability.

🔒In today's full RADAR:

• which of the large longs closed bitcoin in the night hour, and which of them the exchange closed by force;
• the two addresses that carry almost the whole layer of long liquidation lines under ether.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠

Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 07:29 UTC; the day's change is measured between the 07:16 snapshots, in coins; individual addresses' moves come from the registry snapshots (every 30 min) and the trade records. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.

The night hour: who shed longs. Between the 01:16 and 02:16 UTC snapshots bitcoin fell, at the snapshot price, from $85,433 to $83,867. By the trade records: a 40× address closed a 300 BTC long at 02:01–02:02 at $83,676–83,894 (−$508k); the 40× long that trimmed bitcoin yesterday closed another 256 BTC at 02:00–02:26 (−$281k), was down to at least 111 BTC by morning, then partly bought back — 255 BTC at the 07:16 snapshot; two more addresses closed 149 and 133 BTC that night (−$165k and −$66k), and one more closed 101 BTC at 01:59 (−$103k). None of these trades carries a forced-close flag — they left on their own.
Whom the exchange closed. The flipper address from yesterday's radar closed its 4,154 ETH long on its own on 06.10 at 12:17 (−$68k) and opened a 136 BTC long at 16:25; at 01:58–02:01 it closed 61 BTC on its own, and at 02:01 the exchange force-closed another 74.8 BTC at $83,197–83,944 (−$176k). It then briefly went long once more and was out by 03:34; it holds no BTC or ETH position.
Who bought the drop. An address that held an 86 BTC short closed it at 01:41–02:08 and opened a long — 208 BTC at the 07:16 snapshot, plus $20k by the trades.
Who was adding to the short. The second of the two largest short addresses added another 260 BTC over the day: 2,028 BTC at 07:16 yesterday, 2,240 at 11:16, 2,288 by 14:46, unchanged since. At 07:29 — BTC SHORT $192.8M, leverage 5×, average entry $77,142, uPnL −$16.3M, liquidation at $151,222 (+80%). In ether it added 3,120 ETH: SHORT $215.3M, entry $2,359, uPnL −$21.2M, liquidation at $4,465 (+71%).
The market's biggest loss. ETH SHORT $281.5M, leverage 5×, entry $2,315, uPnL −$32.4M, liquidation at $4,205 (+61%); it added 3,004 ETH over the day.
The same address in BTC. SHORT $238.3M, entry $76,098, uPnL −$23.0M, liquidation at $145,104 (+72%); +41 BTC over the day.
Together the two addresses carry $92.9M of unrealised loss across BTC and ETH against $115.6M yesterday — the price drop shrank their loss. Their $431.1M is 62% of the bitcoin short side across the registry, as yesterday.
The 30× short in bitcoin barely changed: BTC SHORT $51.0M from $84,941, uPnL +$0.42M; in ether it shrank from 31,916 to 28,038 ETH — $73.4M.
Ether longs right at the line. The 10× long — ETH LONG $107.9M from $2,694, uPnL −$3.2M, liquidation at $2,525 (−3.5%). The same address that closed 256 BTC in the night was shuffling ether: at 02:01–02:06 it closed 2,100 ETH (−$181k), and at 02:08–02:29 opened 4,300 — +2,150 ETH over the day, from 35,975 to 38,125: ETH LONG $99.8M at 25× from $2,683, uPnL −$2.5M, liquidation at $2,513 (−4%). These two addresses are 89% of all ether long liquidation lines within 5% under the market at the 07:16 snapshot. One more, with a 7,151 ETH long, has its line at $2,593 — less than 1% from the market.
New bitcoin longs. Two addresses absent a week ago hold 10× longs: $31.7M from $86,558 (uPnL −$0.87M) and $26.5M from $86,174 (uPnL −$0.61M), both with liquidation below $61,000.
The market's biggest gain — ETH LONG $79.2M at 20× from $2,134, uPnL +$14.6M.

Cases in the registry — twelve new; notable ones of the 160 open.
Twelve new cases. The largest — Case No. 1161: a call butterfly of 1,000 BTC by the sum of its legs (250 butterflies: 250 calls bought at $90,000 and 250 at $100,000, 500 calls sold at $95,000), expiry 30.10 — a position on bitcoin sitting near $95,000 at the end of October. In ether — No. 1162: a bull call spread of 500 ETH, $2,700/$3,000 for 27.11 — a position on ether rising. The other ten are bitcoin diagonals and spreads from 12.5 to 50 BTC, mostly on near expiries.
Case No. 1157 · the 50 BTC condor for 06.10 has settled, but there's no score: a price needed for the valuation is missing.
Case No. 1153 · BTC, expiry 30.10.2026: 25 puts at $86,000 and 25 calls at $89,000 bought, 100 puts at $71,000 and 50 calls at $104,000 sold; premium ≈1.1 BTC paid. It earns only in two bands — about $67,300–82,100 below and about $92,900–115,100 above; spot at $84,202 sits inside the zone where the structure is in the red, closer to its lower edge.

🔬Who exactly

Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): over the day the house added about 300 BTC and 6,100 ETH of short; the unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $92.9M.
The 30× short is an address labelled Fasanara Capital: BTC SHORT $51.0M, ETH SHORT $73.4M.
Machi Big Brother is the 40× bitcoin and 25× ether long that closed 256 BTC in the night and shuffled ether: BTC LONG $21.5M, ETH LONG $99.8M with liquidation at $2,513.
The other addresses in this section carry no public label — including the flipper address the exchange partially closed.
Money by address. Over seven days all $22.3M of incoming bitcoin arrived from a single Binance-labelled address; $26.7M of the $28.0M of outgoing bitcoin went to addresses of Wintermute.

🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬

Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 136 addresses: BTC — $96M into the short, ETH — $49M into the long; yesterday on 131 addresses — $52M into the short and $14M into the short.
Gamma flip. BTC across the whole book $78,266 against $77,292 yesterday, spot 7.6% above it (what the flip is). ETH — $2,589 against $2,547 yesterday, spot only 1.1% above it.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +1.7 (IV 35.9 against the actual weekly HV 34.2) against +2.6 yesterday.
Changing of the guard. Over the week the whales assembled 175 confirmed structures against 171 yesterday: 47 bullish, 53 bearish, 21 on volatility, 54 on range.

🔒CROSS-CHECK IN DETAIL 💠

BTC levels. Everything below comes from the Deribit options book unless stated otherwise. Today's Wednesday expiry — 2,389 contracts: the market-maker break-even corridor is $84,000–$87,500, spot near its lower edge (what the corridor is); max pain $86,000 on Deribit, $85,000 on Bybit, $85,250 across the combined book (what max pain is); put $84,000 (246 contracts), call $87,000 (159) (what the walls are). It settles at 08:00 UTC, after this snapshot.
Further down the calendar. Thursday 08.10 — 2,768 contracts; Friday 09.10 — 21,403, max pain $84,000; 30.10 — max pain $78,000 and a call wall at $95,000 on 24,869 contracts.
ETH levels. Today's expiry — 40,912 contracts: corridor $2,600–$2,780, spot near its lower edge; max pain $2,700 on Deribit and $2,680 across the combined book; put $2,680 (3,391) — spot is already under it, call $2,800 (7,403). Friday 09.10 in ether — 109,204 contracts, max pain $2,700.
Fuel. At the 06:16 UTC snapshot, under BTC within 5% of the market ($80,063–84,277) there are $25.2M of long positions against $13.4M at yesterday's 03:16 snapshot; above the market within 5% — $12.7M of shorts against $3.1M. In ETH — $237.0M of longs below the market against $33.8M, and above it no short liquidation lines, as yesterday. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC there are no empty zones above the market; below, it is empty at $78,000–$79,000; in ETH — $2,450–$2,500 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. In BTC both directions stay in the zone where dealers dampen the move; above sits the $90,000 call wall. In ETH a 2% fall, to about $2,563, breaks through the $2,589 gamma flip — below it dealers amplify the move rather than dampen it; a 2% rise stays under the $2,800 call wall of today's expiry.
OI flow. BTC put/call across all expiries: month 0.55 · week 0.53 · now 0.56. ETH 0.55 · 0.56 · 0.55 (what put/call is).
Two options books. On the same expiries up to 30 days BTC put/call is 0.54 on Deribit against 1.35 on Bybit; ETH 0.92 against 1.05.
IV by tenor. BTC 2d P31/C33 · 9d P31/C32 · 23d P34/C34, percentiles since February — 28th, 9th and 7th. ETH 2d P40/C38 · 9d P41/C41 · 23d P45/C44, percentiles 18th, 6th and 2nd. ETH DVOL 47.0 against 30-day realised HV 36.0 — a premium of +11.0 (what the premium is).

💎SCENARIOS IN DETAIL 💠

The code's verdicts. From 04.10: the corridor was confirmed — price inside it 96% of the time; the squeeze up through the short fuel was confirmed — a high of $86,635 against the $86,600 level. From 05.10: the corridor was confirmed — 98% of the time; the slide into the long fuel was confirmed — a low of $83,826 on the spot series the code scores with, against the $84,000 level; the 05.10 squeeze was cancelled at that same line. The scenarios from 06.10 run to 08.10; the slide trigger of $83,650 hasn't been touched on the code's series — the low is $83,826, though intra-hour the perps reached about $83,200.
The all-time tally (N counts only those that reached a verdict): squeeze up through the short fuel — 17 of 35, 12 more cancelled at their level; corridor — 19 of 38 plus 9 partial, 5 more cancelled; slide into the long fuel — 10 of 21, 15 more cancelled. The directional types are still no better than a coin toss.
The corridor holds — 50%. ⏱ 2 days, to 09.10. BTC stays within the near 2% of the market: $82,500–$85,900. Cancellation level: a touch of $80,000 — the lower edge of the five-percent zone.
Slide into the long fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 09.10. Trigger: a touch of $82,500 — a break below the near 2%, into the zone where $25.2M of long liquidation lines sit under the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $85,900.
Squeeze up through the short fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to 09.10. Trigger: a touch of $85,900 — a break above the near 2%, where $12.7M of short liquidation lines sit above the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $82,500.
This is how we weigh the odds — not a promise; the code will compute the verdict from spot history.

📅PUBLIC LEDGER

(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 426 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor held the settlement price 349 times — 82%. Tuesday's expiry held in both assets. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. An exact match with the settlement in 157 of those same 426 expiries, 37%; on Tuesday only ether counted. Decision: we don't chase max pain — bitcoin has now settled far from it for a second day running.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 76 of 154 expiries where price reached it — 49%; the put wall in 43 of 104, 41%. On Tuesday all three walls that price reached held. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 872 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 867 with a score, −$19.11M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$10,461 since 11.05 with −$14 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.

📏Scale calibrator

• What protection costs. Our fear-and-greed index — 77 out of 100, as yesterday. We compute it from the price of volatility and the option skew on Deribit, not from news, which is why it diverges from the well-known index.
• Cheap or expensive for this market itself. BTC two-day vol — 28th percentile of the hourly history since February, nine-day — 9th, 23 days out — 7th: even after the drop, insurance is cheaper than usual on every tenor.
• Which way protection tilts. BTC skew −0.7: calls are slightly dearer than puts — yesterday +0.9. Terms: indiciadesk.com/en/glossary/
