Case No. 20261002 · 02.10.2026

The funds sold alongside the whales for exactly one daythen the BTC ETFs bought again and whale longs added coins.

Case #20261002 · 02.10.2026 05:13 UTC · BTC $86,529 / ETH $2,733 · analysis: Opus 5.5 by Anthropic

📅YESTERDAY

Thursday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC $83,496, ETH $2,683. The max pain fixed a day before expiry — $83,500 and $2,680 — matched the settlement for both assets, and the market-maker break-even corridor held the price for both. Today's Friday expiry settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in two new cases, both on bitcoin; the closed tally stands at 869.

⚡THE GIST

• The fund outflow lasted one day: on Thursday the BTC ETFs took in $103M again. The ETH funds posted a third straight day of outflows, −$55M.
• Bitcoin added 2.7% over the day, to $86,529. Among the top Hyperliquid whales nobody was force-closed on this rise.
• The whales eased their bitcoin short tilt: on a constant set of addresses the longs added 241 BTC and the shorts 88 BTC, so the tilt shrank by roughly $13M.
• Ether went the other way: whale longs shrank faster than shorts, the short tilt grew by roughly $14M, and in options protection is quietly building under the market.
• Verdict — break ⚡: yesterday's picture of "funds selling alongside the whales" didn't last a day.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, +$24 on the day, +$9,828 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$83,969 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$9,583. Table at the bottom.

🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas

Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change on a constant set of addresses (how we track whale positions) — the 146 present in both snapshots at 04:16 UTC. This time we count in coins: bitcoin rose 2% between the snapshots, so in dollars both sides would have grown without a single trade.
In BTC the longs on this set added 241 BTC, the shorts 88 BTC. At the morning snapshot price that's ≈$21M against ≈$8M: the short tilt shrank by roughly $13M. In ETH it went the other way: longs fell by 12,774 ETH, shorts by 7,549 ETH, and the short tilt grew by roughly $14M.
Across the whole registry at the 03:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $174.5M against a short of $590.0M, ETH $472.2M against $867.8M. The whales' long share in BTC is 22.8% against 21.2% yesterday.
Overleveraged whales number 64 against 62 yesterday, $903M of positions together, 67% of them longs. Near a margin call — none; yesterday there was one.

Arena two — Deribit options. Bitcoin got a position on a strong move up; ether got a sale of volatility on calm and more insurance underneath.
Over two days 40 structures were recognised in bitcoin; among the three most visible are a calendar spread, a put ratio spread deep under the market and a call position on a strong move up. In ether — 18: two sales of volatility on calm and an aggressive bullish position.
Quiet accumulation outside the blocks (what a block is): in ether — puts under the market for mid-October, the biggest addition in ether this week. In bitcoin — puts below the market, while part of the October calls were taken off.

Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning.
Over seven days $120.6M was brought into the exchange and $121.1M taken out: net almost zero, −$0.5M, against +$17.9M yesterday. This time more USDC cash left through the bridge than came in: $84.3M against $78.7M. Bitcoin keeps coming in — $17.5M against $10.8M out, almost all of it from exchange addresses. Ether was taken out: $9.9M against $7.2M in.

This is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses

What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position.
On Thursday $102.7M went into the BTC funds after Wednesday's $148.7M outflow. One fund delivered all of the net inflow and more — BlackRock's IBIT, +$195.6M; Fidelity's FBTC (−$60.7M) and Grayscale's GBTC (−$31.4M) were selling. The ETH funds −$55.4M — a third outflow in a row. Today's numbers aren't in yet.
Over the five sessions of 25.09–01.10: BTC +$185.7M against +$2.68B the week before; ETH −$13.7M against +$747M.
This contradicts the whales in bitcoin: the BTC funds are buying again, while the whales hold a short more than three times the size of their long. In ether the camp confirms the whales: the funds are selling in the direction the whales moved ether over the day.

What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on Deribit.
BTC skew +1.4 against +0.9 yesterday: puts are getting dearer (what skew is). In ETH −0.7 against +0.7 — calls are slightly dearer than puts.
BTC two-day vol sits in the 28th percentile since February against the 46th yesterday; DVOL 36.4 against 35.7 (what implied vol is).
Our fear-and-greed index stands at 76 out of 100 against 77 yesterday.
This camp is silent: protection on bitcoin is getting dearer, but the insurance itself stays cheap.

What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position.
BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms — the venue's base rate, same as yesterday; on Binance +0.007% against +0.005% (what funding is). In ETH +0.010% and +0.009% against +0.010% and +0.005% yesterday.
This camp is silent: the price rise didn't heat funding above the base.

What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales.
On Bybit perps 55% of BTC accounts stand long against 59% yesterday; in ETH 67% against 68%.
This camp is silent: the gap between the crowd and the whales narrowed from both sides — the crowd shed some longs, the whales added theirs; it points no direction.

Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market.
No forced closures among the top Hyperliquid whales over the day. On OKX swaps $375k was liquidated, 60% of it longs, against $216k yesterday.
This camp is silent: the rise went through without a cascade.

Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.

🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer

The classic altseason index stands at 44.0 out of 100 against 48.0 yesterday. The list is the same, 250 alts, so the index lost four points over the day: bitcoin outran the alts. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 43.8% — $5.57B of $12.73B, against 44.9% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's make up 69% of open interest against 80% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 70.7% long against 70.0% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 29.0% long across $1.54B of positions, the biggest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share fell by almost three points, giving back yesterday's rise.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY

break ⚡ — yesterday's picture of "funds selling alongside the whales" didn't last a day: the BTC funds are buying again, and on the constant set of addresses the whales eased their bitcoin short tilt by roughly $13M. Ether goes its own way: whale longs shrank, and the ETH funds are selling for a third day. Witnesses: the funds go against the whales in bitcoin and with the whales in ether; options, futures, the crowd and stress are silent.
What this does NOT mean. This is not a claim that the short tilt is going away: the whales' bitcoin short is still more than three times their long, and one day of buying isn't a trend yet. Nor does the price rise make a move up inevitable: there are more short liquidation lines above the market now, yet on the morning push nobody among the top whales was force-closed.

🔒In today's full RADAR:

• which of the big longs bought in the evening and who reopened a high-leverage short — sizes, liquidation lines, trades;
• two new registry cases on bitcoin — what exactly the whale set up and where it earns.

🔒WHALES IN DETAIL 💠

Portraits from the Hyperliquid registry, snapshot 04:46 UTC at BTC $86,446 and ETH $2,740; the day's change is measured between the 04:16 snapshots; trades come from Hyperliquid's history. Nicknames aren't treated as identification.

Who bought longs. The most active is a 40× long: on the morning of 01.10 it dumped ~160 BTC at a small loss (≈−$58k), at 17–18 UTC it bought ~460 BTC at ~$84,700, and on the 04:00 UTC push it sold part at a gain (≈+$0.10M). Net over the day +101 BTC; at 04:46 — BTC LONG $38.5M, uPnL +$0.84M, liquidation at $68,106 (−21%).
Another address at 16:00 UTC on 01.10 added 108 BTC to a ~204 BTC long (at $84,192, 40×) and doubled its ether long, to 8,013 ETH. Its BTC LONG is $27.0M, uPnL +$0.78M.
The address that has left bitcoin three times since 28.09 (on 30.09 for half an hour) came back a third time: on 02.10 around 02:00 UTC — 50 BTC at $85,009 at 40×. In ether it closed yesterday's small short (−$12k) and at 17:00 UTC opened a 3,500 ETH long at $2,692.
Who left. A BTC SHORT of 120 BTC was closed on 01.10 at 14:00 UTC at $84,195, a loss of ≈$91k. A 40× long shed 149 BTC in two goes: 119.2 BTC on 01.10 at 05:00 UTC at $84,275 and 29.4 BTC on the 02.10 push at 04:00 at $86,233 (+$58k).
Shorts: who is cutting, who is coming back. The 30× short cut its bitcoin from 616 to 489 BTC between the 04:16 snapshots ($51.7M down to $41.8M); at 04:46 — 466 BTC, $40.3M. The exchange no longer returns this address's 01.10 trades, so the cut is visible only on the snapshots. The second of the two biggest short addresses added 53 BTC, to 1,802 BTC.
The 40× short is back. The address that closed 424 BTC of short on 30.09 at a loss of ≈$0.85M reopened 200 BTC of short on 01.10 around 19:00 UTC at $84,551. Liquidation line $87,138, 0.7% above the $86,529 snapshot price; on the 04:00 UTC push the Deribit perp reached $86,908. At 05:40 UTC the position stands, uPnL −$0.28M.
The "ether against bitcoin" pair. The bitcoin leg has stayed closed since 30.09; ETH LONG 20,000 ETH ($54.3M) at 4×, uPnL +$15.6M (05:40 UTC).
Ether: longs cut. A 25× ether long closed 9,690 ETH at 18–19 UTC on 01.10 at ~$2,700, a loss of ≈$0.22M; the same evening this address also cut its BTC short by 151 BTC (−$0.20M): 5,809 ETH of long remain against 149 BTC of short. Another address flipped twice over the day: at 15:00 UTC it closed an 8,183 ETH long at $2,677 (−$0.11M), went short by the evening, closed that at 00–01 UTC (−$0.19M) and now holds a small long.
The market's biggest loss. ETH SHORT $286.4M, leverage 5×, entry $2,304, uPnL −$45.6M, liquidation at $4,036 (+47%).
The same address in BTC. SHORT $241.0M, entry $75,949, uPnL −$29.3M, liquidation at $135,448 (+57%).
A second address with the same pattern. BTC SHORT $155.7M and ETH SHORT $212.6M, both at 5×, uPnL −$21.1M and −$31.2M. Together the two addresses carry $127.1M of unrealised loss across BTC and ETH against $112.4M yesterday. Their $396.7M is 67% of the bitcoin short side across the whole registry at 04:46 against 66% yesterday.
The ether longs. The market's biggest gain is ETH LONG $83.0M at 20× from $2,134, uPnL +$18.3M. The 10× long from $2,694 at $113.0M is $1.9M in the green, liquidation at $2,521 (−8%). The 25× long — $89.3M from $2,680, uPnL +$2.0M, liquidation at $2,488 (−9%).

Cases in the registry — two new; five notable of the 147 open.
Case #1153 · new · BTC, expiry Friday 30.10.2026: 25 puts at $86,000 and 25 calls at $89,000 bought, 100 puts at $71,000 and 50 calls at $104,000 sold; premium ≈1.1 BTC paid. It earns only on a move beyond ~$82,100 down or ~$92,900 up; between the $86,000–$89,000 strikes it loses the whole premium; below $71,000 and above $104,000 the sold legs outweigh the bought ones. Spot $86,529 sits inside the gap where the structure doesn't earn yet.

🔬Who exactly

Both of the biggest shorts are Abraxas Capital Mgmt (Heka Funds): over the day the house's second address added 53 BTC of short; the house's unrealised loss across BTC and ETH is $127.1M.
The 30× short that is cutting bitcoin is an address labelled Fasanara Capital: BTC SHORT $40.3M and ETH SHORT $96.1M at 25× (04:46).
Machi Big Brother is the 40× long that bought ~460 BTC in the evening and sold part on the push: BTC LONG $38.5M, ETH LONG $89.3M at 25×.
The other addresses in this section carry no public label.
Money by address. Over seven days $17.2M of the $17.5M of incoming bitcoin arrived from Binance addresses; $8.4M of ether and $5.8M of bitcoin went to addresses of Wintermute; $7.4M of USDC went to OKX deposit addresses.

🔒THE WEEK'S DYNAMICS 🔬

Perps on a constant set of addresses. Over 7 days on 127 addresses: BTC — $62M into the short, ETH — $37M into the short. The last day in bitcoin ran against the week's move.
Gamma flip. BTC across all expiries $78,555 against $77,192 yesterday, spot 10% above it (what the flip is). ETH — $2,679, 2.0% below spot.
The price of fear. On the weekly window the premium is +1.2 (IV 36.4 against the actual weekly HV 35.1) against +0.4 yesterday.
Changing of the guard. Over the week the whales assembled 154 confirmed structures: 47 bullish, 45 bearish, 24 on volatility, 38 on range.

🔒CROSS-CHECK IN DETAIL 💠

BTC levels. Everything below comes from the Deribit options book unless stated otherwise. Today's Friday expiry — 31,089 contracts (28,555 yesterday morning): the market-maker break-even corridor is $76,000–$87,000, spot at its upper edge (what the corridor is); max pain $82,000 on Deribit and $82,500 on the combined book with Bybit (what max pain is); the biggest put and call sit on the same strike — $82,000 (1,690 and 1,599 contracts) (what the walls are). It settles at 08:00 UTC, after this snapshot.
Further down the calendar. Saturday 03.10 — 2,539 contracts; Friday 09.10 — 18,920; Friday 30.10 — max pain $77,000 and a call wall at $95,000 on 23,366 contracts.
ETH levels. Today's expiry — 117,268 contracts: corridor $2,580–$2,750, spot near its upper bound; max pain $2,660 on Deribit and $2,680 on the combined book; put $2,600 (11,306), call $3,000 (12,775).
Fuel. At the 04:46 UTC snapshot, under BTC within 5% of the market ($82,124–86,446) there are only $4.7M of long positions against $11.3M yesterday. Above the market within 5% — $28.1M of shorts against $5.8M: price has climbed into a denser zone of short liquidation lines. In ETH $21.9M of longs below the market against $20.9M yesterday, shorts above the market — $1.5M. This is about the RANGE of a move for the same push, not about a higher probability of that move (what the fuel map is).
Gamma vacuum. In BTC it is empty above at $92,000–$94,000 and below at $78,000–$79,000; in ETH — $2,550–$2,600 under the market.
Stress test ±2%. In BTC both directions stay in the zone where dealers damp the move; on the upside the move is held back by the $90,000 call wall — about 26,000 contracts on the strike, the core in Friday 30.10. In ETH a 2% fall breaks through the gamma flip at $2,679.
OI flow. BTC put/call across all expiries: month 0.56 · week 0.60 · now 0.57. ETH 0.54 · 0.56 · 0.63 — puts are being added under ether (what put/call is).
Two options books. On the same expiries up to 30 days BTC put/call is 0.57 on Deribit against 1.51 on Bybit; ETH 1.21 against 1.10.
IV by tenor. BTC 2d P32/C33 · 7d P34/C34 · 28d P36/C34, percentiles of the 7- and 28-day since February — 20th and 18th. ETH 2d P40/C42 · 7d P44/C44 · 28d P50/C49, percentiles 22nd, 13th and 19th. ETH DVOL 50.2 against 30-day realised HV 40.5 — a premium of +9.6 (what the premium is).

💎SCENARIOS IN DETAIL 💠

The code's verdicts. The scenarios from 30.09 close today at 08:21 UTC, after this snapshot; the squeeze trigger at $84,700 was already crossed on 30.09. From 01.10: the trigger for the squeeze up through the short fuel, $85,950, was crossed around 04:00 UTC — the high on the Deribit perp was $86,908; the code will count it at the Saturday 03.10 deadline. The same touch has already cancelled the 01.10 slide at its level. The 01.10 corridor runs to Saturday 03.10, and price is now above it.
The all-time tally (N counts only those that reached a verdict): squeeze up through the short fuel — 13 of 31, 10 more cancelled at their level; corridor — 17 of 32 plus 6 partial, 5 more cancelled; slide into the long fuel — 8 of 19, 13 more cancelled. The directional types are still no better than a coin toss.
The corridor holds — 50%. ⏱ 2 days, to Sunday 04.10. BTC stays within the near 2% of the market: $84,800–$88,250. Cancellation level: a touch of $82,200 — the lower edge of the five-percent zone.
Slide into the long fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to Sunday 04.10. Trigger: a touch of $84,800 — a break below the near 2%. Cancellation level: a touch of $88,250.
Squeeze up through the short fuel — 25%. ⏱ 2 days, to Sunday 04.10. Trigger: a touch of $88,250 — a break above the near 2%, into the zone where $28.1M of short liquidation lines sit above the market. Cancellation level: a touch of $84,800.
This is how we weigh the odds — not a promise; the code will compute the verdict from spot history.

📅PUBLIC LEDGER

(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 416 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor held the settlement price 340 times — 82%. Thursday's expiry held for both assets. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. An exact match with the settlement in 151 of those same 416 expiries, 36%; on Thursday both assets matched. Decision: we don't chase max pain — one exact day doesn't change the share.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 72 of 148 expiries where price reached it — 49%; the put wall in 42 of 102, 41%. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 869 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit), −$19.11M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$9,828 since 11.05 with +$24 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.

📏Scale calibrator

• What protection costs. Our fear-and-greed index — 76 out of 100 against 77 yesterday. We compute it from the price of volatility and the option skew on Deribit, not from news, which is why it diverges from the well-known index.
• Cheap or expensive for this market itself. BTC two-day vol — 28th percentile of the hourly history since February, seven-day — 20th, 28 days out — 18th: insurance is cheaper than usual on every tenor.
• Which way protection tilts. BTC skew +1.4: puts are dearer than calls — yesterday +0.9. Terms: indiciadesk.com/en/glossary/
