Bitcoin clears $80k, whale shorts give way · 05.11.2026

Case No. 20261105 · 05.11.2026

The bounce didn't stop at $78,500bitcoin went through $80,000, whale shorts gave way, and long fuel lies under the price again.

Case No. 20261105 · 05.11.2026 06:22 UTC · BTC $80,405 / ETH $2,423 · analysis: Sonnet 5.5 by Anthropic

📅YESTERDAY

The daily expiry 04.11 settled at 08:00 UTC: bitcoin at $78,044, ether at $2,301. By the levels fixed a day before the expiry, both coins stayed inside the market-maker corridor (bitcoin $75,000–79,500, ether $2,160–2,320). Max pain (by the registry's record, Deribit) in bitcoin ($77,500) matched: the settlement came 0.7% higher; in ether ($2,260) it did not: the settlement was 1.8% higher. The registry of closed cases didn't grow: it stands at 946, as yesterday.
Of what yesterday's radar put on its watch list: the exchange force-closed the short of the whale we track eight times — the last three steps coincided with the price peak above $81,000; bitcoin spot stayed above the gamma flip (whole book $76,787) and moved 4.7% away from it; and the calls for the nearest Saturday, bought on 03.11 in three blocks of a thousand, have since been followed by three sales of a thousand — one on 04.11 at 03:55 UTC and two more yesterday afternoon; who is behind them isn't visible in the blocks.

⚡THE GIST

• Since yesterday's morning snapshot bitcoin is up 3.6%, ether 5.7%. Between the snapshots (05:53 UTC yesterday and 06:22 today) bitcoin on the Hyperliquid perp covered a range of 4.4% — from $77,723 to $81,177 — against 3.2% a day earlier: the price took $78,500 at 09:32 UTC and $80,000 at 15:04, peaked at $81,177 at 15:17 and had slipped back by morning. Spot sits above the gamma flip — in the zone where market-makers' hedging dampens a move instead of amplifying it.
• The whale we've tracked since 26.10 was positioned against the bounce: over the day the exchange force-closed its short eight times, three of them within nine minutes at the peak; between those steps it closed shorts itself at a loss, opened and closed a long along the way, and each time went short again. Yesterday its own closes on the fall and the forced ones nearly cancelled each other out; today the forced closes cost it more than its own closes earned.
• Other shorts gave way too: the account that opened a short of hundreds of coins the evening before last closed it entirely at a loss, and the account that doubled its short on 23.10 cut it by a further 35%. On the constant set of 127 bitcoin addresses shorts shrank by 627 BTC with longs almost unchanged (+13 BTC): the tilt moved toward long by about $51.5M. The account from our investigation went against the move — its short grew fivefold.
• Fuel within 2% has flipped again: in bitcoin under the price sit $17.8M of longs across three positions (almost all of it one account that opened a long overnight), and above it only $9.6M of shorts across three positions; yesterday it was the other way round — $20.5M of shorts above the price and $3.0M of longs under it. In ether under the price $17.5M of longs in one position, above it $0.5M.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: yesterday's break lower became a move up, not a one-day bounce — the price went through $80,000 and the whales' tilt moved toward long. But by the registry the bitcoin short is still 3.7 times the long (4.1 yesterday). The funds in bitcoin are pulling money out, against the whales' shift; in ether money came in for the first time in five trading days; options confirm the bounce, the crowd still stands long (61.0%), futures are silent.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, −$120 on the day, +$5,610 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$74,969 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$10,525. Table at the bottom.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY

continuation ⟳ — yesterday's break lower became a move up: the price went through $80,000, whale shorts were being cut, and new long fuel has settled under the price. The witnesses: options confirm the bounce, the funds in bitcoin go against the whales' shift, the crowd stands long but less than yesterday, futures are silent.
What this does NOT mean. A move up of 3.6% isn't proof that the shorts are done: by the registry the bitcoin short stays 3.7 times the long, and new shorts appeared as the price rose. Fuel under the price is about how far a move can carry for the same push, not about a new flush being more likely.

🔒In today's full RADAR:

• where the line of the whale the exchange force-closed eight times over the day lies now, and how much its account lost on the forced closes;
• which volatility structure appeared in the blocks in the morning — at which strikes, with what net premium and to which expiry.

📅PUBLIC LEDGER

(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 484 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor fixed a day before expiry held the settlement price 398 times — 82%; both expiries of 04.11 the registry has already recorded — both inside the corridor. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. A match with the settlement (deviation under 1%) in 181 of those same 484 expiries, 37%; on 04.11 it matched in bitcoin, in ether it did not (the settlement 1.8% higher). Decision: we don't chase max pain.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 82 of 162 expiries where price reached it — 51%; the put wall in 50 of 119, 42%. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 946 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit); across the 937 with a score, −$16.58M in total for the whales, as yesterday: no case closed over the day. 141 open against 140 yesterday. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$5,610 since 11.05 with −$120 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name, on a losing day too.

📏Scale calibrator

• What protection costs. Our fear-and-greed index — 50 out of 100 against 47 yesterday. We compute it from the price of volatility and the option skew on Deribit, not from news, which is why it diverges from the well-known index.
• Cheap or expensive for this market itself. BTC two-day vol — 49th percentile of the hourly history since February, eight-day — 36th, 22 days out — 25th: the nearest insurance is average in price, and further along the curve it is noticeably cheaper.
• Which way protection tilts. BTC skew +1.9: puts dearer than calls, but far less so than yesterday (+5.7). Terms: indiciadesk.com/en/glossary/
