📅YESTERDAY
Saturday's expiry settled at 08:00 UTC: BTC$84,597, ETH$2,682. The max pain fixed a day before expiry — $84,500 and $2,700 — matched the settlement for both assets, and the market-maker break-even corridor held price in both. Today's Sunday expiry settles after this snapshot.
The case registry took in no new cases; the closed tally stands at 871. One of the cases we've been showing every day was taken apart early by its whale.
⚡THE GIST
• A quiet Sunday: bitcoin added 0.3% over the day, to $84,906; on OKX swaps only $660 was liquidated over the day.
• The whales barely moved: on a constant set of addresses the bitcoin short tilt added ~$3M, and the ether one shrank by about the same.
• The bear from our investigation closed his last short in the green and is out of positions. The refill whale from another of our investigations holds a short whose liquidation line sits less than 1% above the price.
• Our fear-and-greed index stands at 83 out of 100: the options market still isn't paying for protection.
• Verdict — continuation ⟳: the whales hold their positions, a weekend without movement.
• 📊 Our Polygon — Pendulum: the best of four versions, +$248 on the day, +$9,913 in total since 11.05.
• 📊 Our Polygon — signals: best — Dust Strategy V2 +$81,719 at a 4% win rate · worst — Wheel Trail V8 −$9,914. Table at the bottom.
🐋WHALES: WHAT CHANGED — three arenas
Arena one — Hyperliquid futures. We measure the day's change on a constant set of addresses (how we track whale positions) — the 151 present in both snapshots at 04:16 UTC — and count in coins, as on previous days. In BTC the longs on this set barely changed (+0.4BTC), while the shorts grew by 37BTC: the short tilt added ≈$3M. In ETH the longs shrank by 3,279 ETH and the shorts by 4,476 ETH: the short tilt narrowed by about $3M. Across the registry — among positions with a liquidation price — the totals at the 06:16 UTC snapshot: BTC long $190.7M against a short of $566.9M, ETH$464.6M against $891.6M. The whales' long share in BTC is 25.2% against 24.4% yesterday. Overleveraged whales number 70 against 66 yesterday, $1.10B of positions together, 62% of them longs. Near a margin call — none.
Arena two — Deribit options. A weekend: over two days only 4 structures were recognised in bitcoin against 89 yesterday, and 5 in ether against 28. The next heavy expiry is Friday 09.10. Among the bitcoin ones — a position against a rise far above the market and a position on price not falling deep; in ether — selling volatility on a calm market. Quiet accumulation outside the blocks (what a block is): in ether — puts under the market for mid-October and later, the biggest addition of the week; in bitcoin, puts below the market are being added.
Arena three — money at the exchange border. The snapshot is fresh — up to this morning. Over seven days $60.5M was brought into the exchange and $100.2M taken out: $39.6M more was withdrawn than deposited, against $34.3M yesterday. USDC cash keeps leaving through the bridge: $81.4M out against $45.9M in. Bitcoin: $7.1M out against $3.3M in. Ether went the other way this time — more came in than left: $9.2M against $5.0M.
This is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🧭CROSS-CHECK — five camps of witnesses
What the funds are doing. Spot ETFs are the only camp that measures purchases of the coin itself, not a leveraged position. The funds don't trade at weekends, and Friday's numbers still aren't in: the last known day is Thursday 01.10, +$102.7M into the BTC funds and −$55.4M out of the ETH funds. Over the five sessions of 25.09–01.10: BTC+$185.7M against +$2.68B the week before, ETH−$13.7M against +$747M. This camp is silent: no new data.
What the options market says. This camp measures one thing: what insurance costs on Deribit. BTCskew−0.5 against −0.8 yesterday: calls are slightly dearer than puts (what skew is). In ETH+2.2 against −1.1 — puts on ether have become dearer than calls. BTC two-day vol sits in the 17th percentile since February against the 2nd yesterday; DVOL35.5 against 34.8 (what implied vol is). Our fear-and-greed index stands at 83 out of 100 against 80 yesterday. This camp is silent: insurance is cheap and the bitcoin tilt is almost neutral; only in ether has protection against a fall got dearer.
What the futures say. This camp measures who pays whom to hold a position. BTC funding on Hyperliquid is +0.010% in eight-hour terms — the venue's base rate — against +0.006% yesterday; on Binance +0.003% against +0.001% (what funding is). In ETH+0.010% and +0.004% against +0.010% and 0.000% yesterday. This camp is silent: funding sits at the base.
What the crowd is doing. This camp measures how retail accounts stand against the whales. On Bybit perps 57% of BTC accounts stand long, and 69% in ETH — the same as yesterday. This camp is silent: the crowd didn't move.
Any signs of stress. This camp measures whether anyone has already been forced out of the market. Among the top Hyperliquid whales there were no forced closures over the day. On OKX swaps $660 was liquidated against $1.9M yesterday. This camp is silent: a day without liquidations.
Again: this is positioning, not a direction forecast.
🌡ALTSEASON — the classic and our barometer
The classic altseason index stands at 53.4 out of 100 against 42.2 yesterday — but the coin list shrank sharply, 191 alts against 251; on today's list yesterday's value is 53.9, so the index barely changed over the day. This is the transition zone: altseason starts at 75, bitcoin season sits below 25.
Our barometer watches money, not prices: open interest, funding and retail come from Bybit perps, the whales from the Hyperliquid registry. Alts' share of open interest is 43.4% — $5.31B of $12.24B, against 44.0% yesterday.
Alt contracts with funding hotter than bitcoin's make up 82% of open interest against 91% yesterday.
Retail in the top-10 coins stands 71.4% long against 71.9% yesterday.
Whales in alts are structurally short: 29.7% long across $1.59B of positions, the biggest of them HYPE. That gap itself is permanent, the signal is in its CHANGE — over the day the whales' long share rose by less than a point.

⚖️VERDICT OF THE DAY
continuation ⟳ — the whales hold their positions: in bitcoin the short is almost three times the long, in ether almost twice, and over the day both tilts moved by only a few million. Witnesses: the funds have no new data; options, futures, the crowd and stress are silent.
What this does NOT mean. A quiet weekend doesn't mean the risk is gone: insurance is cheap, and overleveraged whales number 70 against 66 yesterday. Nor is the exit of the bear from our investigation a whale reversal — it's one wallet's story.

📅PUBLIC LEDGER
(computed by code at the settlement price)
The market-maker corridor. Across 420 expiries since February the market-maker break-even corridor held the settlement price 343 times — 82%. Saturday's expiry held in both assets. Decision: we lean on the corridor knowing that roughly one expiry in five it doesn't hold.
Max pain. An exact match with the settlement in 153 of those same 420 expiries, 36%; on Saturday both assets matched. Decision: we don't chase max pain — one exact day doesn't change the share.
The walls. The call wall held the settlement in 73 of 150 expiries where price reached it — 49%; the put wall in 42 of 102, 41%. Decision: we don't publish a wall without an expiry and a contract count, nor its percentage without a base.
Whale structures. The registry: 871 closed cases (5 of them from Bybit), −$19.11M in total for the whales. Decision: win rate isn't money, and we don't copy whale structures — we track where they stand.
Polygon. Pendulum +$9,913 since 11.05 with +$248 on the day — both numbers from one series, the live curve of the best of four versions. Decision: we publish the tally daily with the same denominator and with the version's name.
